PlayStation 4 Console Thread

It is on the consoles. Presumably the video in question is the one from early August where they were still showing a PC build with DS4 button prompts; if memory servers the framerate is pretty variable in that footage, although naturally that wouldn't be noticeable with most web players.

Definitely PC version, quite a few of the scenes shown are from the (massive) screenshots on the Nvidia website showing off all the fancy new effects.

Be nice if they left in native DS4 support since it obviously supported it at the time.

People are idiots though. That's the sad thing.

I went through a phase where my subscribers would send my pirate GBA to destroy.

Here's me making a toasted sandwich out of some of them. It's had nearly 30,000 views. Not a lot really, but still ridiculous.

Are there any nice launch editions of magazines flying about? Quite fancy picking one up for the hippity hype, but I've only ever bought Edge and Retro Gamer for years so I'm a bit out of the loop as to what dedicated mags are actually any cop.

Just had to phone ShopTo up as my bank had informed me that someone tried to take some money from my account.

Turns out it wasn't shopto as they hadn't processed my order. Got them to process it for me whilst on the phone to make sure that everything went through ok.

Now processing, roll on the 29th, Can't wait

Just had a hold of the pad in Game. It's lovely!

But the screen the console was connected to said: UNSUPPORTED VIDEO SIGNAL or whatever, so I couldn't actually play it. Fucking useless.

Yeah, the launch line up is fairly dire (it's just current gen games as far as the eye can see), but I'm still in from day one.

I have to argue with this. Battlefield and AC have been massively compromised on console since day one. Sure, they're still fun, but AC3 and BF3 especially felt like they were running on a chuggy old laptop at 1280x720. They're two series that I would consider to be next-gen at this point, which had bits lopped off until they just about worked on current gen. Being able to play BF4 and AC4 on console with decent performance is going to be wonderful and shouldn't be written off so lightly.

They had some Bone demopods in HMV Oxford street with some punters looking suitably impressed by Forza, I'd have thought Sony would have at least had some PS4 units in as well, even if they were just showing 1080p videos of Driveclub to counter such behaviour.

Then I had the unfortunate experience of going to Game in the basement of Hamleys (the ONLY place in central pissing London that I could think of other than HMV and CEX which didn't have any to buy xcom enemy within from an actual shop on my lunch time, ludicrous) and they pestered me at every turn for pre-orders, did I want the Bone blahblahblahblah. I really dislike Game and if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to open my own indie super games shop / museum which sells everything ever right in the middle of Oxford Street. It will run at a loss but it will be there for all of us gamers in London.

OPM have their own dedicated Launch issue special, and whilst it is in Newsstand, I don't know if it's actually on newsstands

Apparently the CoD framerate judder was caused by it running higher than 60fps a lot of the time

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-whats-fixed-and-whats-not-in-the-cod-ghosts-ps4-patch

So just what is going on? Well, a close look at our captures reveals that Call of Duty: Ghosts actually runs at higher frame-rates than 60fps on a fairly frequent basis, despite the video output being limited to 60Hz

So more shitty programming, rather than the hardware not being up to it.

So the PS4 is actually too fast to play games that run on the Xbox One properly? WELL THEN.

My Shopto payment for the console bounced yesterday. Apparently cause the billing address on my account was wrong.

Tried to change the details and it didn't work, had the funds in my account and everything. Went into the bank to check everything was above board, all good.

Rung them on lunch just now. They had me on hold for like 15-20 minutes. I took an absolutely massive bite of sandwich just as the guy answered, couldn't respond eloquently enough in good time , heard him sayinghello a couple of times and hung up just as i swallowed! Anyone else hate when that happens?

Anyway rang them back 5 mins ago, got straight through and we're good to go. Booked 4 days off at the end of November just to sink myself into the console.

GREATNESS FUCKING AWAITS.

Jesus, i'm really in a dilemma. After wanting a PS4 for ages and putting money away since February to pay for it i'm now torn between this and a bloody Wii U of all things. All because of Super Mario 3D World.

Out of the release day games on PS4, only Resogun has me excited and I'm honestly not that bothered about anything else. Reading and watching things about Mario 3D sounds so fun and everything I love about gaming. I played The Wind Waker for a bit back in the Gamecube days and would definitely pick that up also. My only concern is what's after this on the Wii U? That's an honest question as I really didn't like the Wii that much so haven't been keeping up to date with Nintendo a lot over the last few years.

I take it if I change the address of my PS4 order, I run the risk of it not arriving at all launch day?

Edit: Amazon

Buy both.

Living in a cardboard box is worth it.

Not a lot. Mario Kart in about 4 or 5 months. Bayonetta 2 some day. Super Smash Bros next year? New Zelda in 2015.

It's frustrating but it feels like the Wii U has no support apart from Nintendo themselves. They should be bankrolling others to make another Monster Hunter, Zombi U 2 etc.

LOL, I'd be up for that although I'd guess my wife and 2 children wouldn't be :quote:

Nice :)

I watched the 720 vs 1080 video (at 1080 of course) and even with youtubes compression you could see the difference, especially the reduction in aliasing.

It seems Ghosts could have used another few months in the oven but its good to know thats its just a software issue.

The way i see it is that the only quality games on the wiiu are likely to come from nintendo themselves.(so we agree)

Considering they only knock out a handful of games a year (not all good of course) i'll be holding of.

The 3rd party support just isn't there so i'll do as i did with the wii and pick it up later when its considerably cheaper with enough games to keep me going for a month or two.

What they should be doing is doing a Dreamcast by freeing up their talent to release small, brilliant games on a ridiculously regular basis and fill the machine with joy.

Rather than doing a Dreamcast in the other, more unfortunate way as they seem to be.
