BF4 was probably going to be my 'main' PS4 game, but it's supposedly completely broken and missing the actual mode I want to play on PS4. I expcected DICE/EA to fuck-up the launch as they have every other BF console game, but they appear to have outdone themselves and reached new lows. This has taken the shine off my pre-oder somewhat.

I was looking forward to playing to playing BF4 with you lot on console but it seems like DICE couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery at the minute. At least if you do get the machine with no games at all there's still stuff you can play!

In my experience a lot of people will have launch goggles on, I still remember people arguing with a straight face that Perfect Dark Zero was actually really good.

I find you tend to get a bit of both. Some people have launch goggles, other games that get slagged often return many years later with people championing the game. Luigi's Mansion on the GC is one that always sticks in my mind as a title that received a lot of abuse on release on gaming forums, but was championed as an overlooked gem many years later on the very same forums.

As for Knack I can see it being on PS+ sometime in the next year, so will give it a spin then.

Some of you must have seriously short attention spans if taking 10 seconds to swap a disc is a chore!

Well not to trivialise but my discs tend to live on a different floor of the house to the console.

I still prefer discs because this situation happens because of sharing games round the house anyway but it's not just a swap.

I don't think anyones saying it's a brilliant masterpiece or anything, just that it's a fun throwback to PS1 platformers and that they enjoyed it.

Isn't the issue that it's not a throwback to those games at all, and instead it's a deceptively difficult and repetitive brawler wearing a platformers' clothing?

Can someone fill me in on the Battlefield 4 issues? Is it just the crashes everyone keeps mentioning? It's the only PS4 game I have pre-ordered atm.

Constant crashes, booting to dash or even console hard-locks, broken server lists, people can't join Conquest mode, game saves becoming corrupt...

The Knack thread is a bit of a love-in on NeoGAF. Watching some livestreams has made me much more interested. It's not a 5* game for sure but looks like a lot of fun. This is a pretty great and fair review:

In 20 years time when the servers and store for the PS4 is but a distant memory you will still be able to buy these awesome games on a disc on ebay.

We shouldn't underestimate the value of physical games.

I just don't play games that old so although I would like the idea of the option being there I really wouldn't take it up.I have an original fat ps3 (again!) that does BC yet I have barely touched the PS2 games I have in the 5/6/7 years I have owned it.

So if I just buy basically any 2.5" 500GB or 1TB hybrid drive, and download 1.5 to a USB stick, I'm good for a day one upgrade?

It's because people will buy and enjoy even the most average games at launch, even more so if they're exclusive to that platform.

Or it could be because the game is fun. Not amazing, maybe not even great and certainly not worth £50 but a fun game.

It's not that, well it isn't for me anyway. I can tell it isn't a perfect game, not by any stretch of the imagination. It does however look a nice little mid-tier game. Now if there was a ton of choice and we were a few years into a generation, then I might consider leaving it until it drops in price, but with it being the only game of its type in this window, then it is one that has been on my list since I first saw it. One I can play nicely with my family and get enjoyment from.

Reviews weren't great for it, but hearing first hand reports of people enjoying it, then that makes me a lot happier about picking it up.

It's already got a 500GB drive. It's going to be ages before you'll need more space, I wouldn't bother upgrading now unless there's a really big advantage in having a hybrid drive.
