PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Yeah it installs automatically when you put the game in but let's you get on with stuff whilst it does it.

Only thing I'm not sure is how the space is managed for this sort of thing. Killzone is around 40GB which is essentially about 10% of the drive space. Seems a lot.

You have to manage it yourself. They've done it that way so you're always in control of what's installed.

No.

Please note:

● Customers who pre-ordered this console up to and including August 6 have been given an option to get a PS4 for release day

● Customers who pre-ordered this console from August 7 up to and including November 13 will receive their consoles before Christmas

● Customers who pre-order this console from November 14 will receive their consoles after Christmas

● Customers who cancel existing pre-orders and place a new order will not get their console for release day

Blimey. That's from amazon? Ordered from them on 22 Sept.

The only questions I want answering about the PS4 is:

Is the PS4 louder than Original 360? (unlikely)

Is the PS4 louder than 360 Slim?

I also would like this question answered. My big problem with the 360 and the reason I haven't switched it on in years is that mine was ridiculously loud. It would really dampen my enthusiasm if the PS4 is similarly blighted.

Well I'm back to being a bit more excited now. I'm expecting to blow hot and cold the next week and a half about it but currently quite excited!

This thread on Neogaf of all places has cheered me up:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=716819

It's a discussion on the little things that make the PS4 great. Makes a change from reading negative comments for a change (although there are one or two in there).

Regarding Edge, maybe they are waiting for UK hardware & software before reviewing? Who knows.. Sony could have slipped them a few quid to keep quiet about Knack being "underwhelming" for a few days..

Edit - I cancelled my Shopto preorder a few days ago. Sounds like I'm lucky I did it in enough time to avoid the hassle of getting my cash back.

I placed a preorder with them first, and was planning on getting it from them but the Amazon bundles have been so much better value.

Shame really as I'd rather give them my money but can't justify the extra cost.

Weird how Edge haven't posted their reviews yet, failed hardware maybe?

The only explanation is that they're working to the UK release schedule, therefore the Bone exclusives get published online first.

Which is weird considering they often review stuff months/years before it get a UK release.

Edit:

They're in progress. We only got hardware late last week.

Aha!

I was adament that I didn't need a ps4, but christ this is going to be the tits on vita.

Alas, belonging to the one genre that shows up even the smallest amount of input lag that modern screens bring to the equation, I imagine it'll be one of the most frustrating remote play games in terms of those extra few milliseconds added on.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm not too hopeful.

What's the deal with buying PS4 games for Download? Will all games be available at launch? Will it work the same sort of way as Steam?

I'm wondering if ordering/buying the physical disks are worth it for launch day or if I can just grab the games I want as and when I want to play them.

Official policy is all games have to be available to download. It works pretty much like Steam in that games are associated with your account so you can quite happily log into a mate's PS4 and play the game on it. Expect launch prices for DL games to be comically high though, as publishers don't want people DLing games instead of buying them on disc from their preferred retail partners. Because retail is lame.

I was going to say - and I don't mean this in a bad way - I can't see EDGE going to the London review event thing. Did you?

A lot of the launch reviews from both new machines seem kind of rushed. Many of the Dead Rising reviews today simply list a collection of features, make mention of framerate problems and then slap a number on the end.
