PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Any pre-payers heard anything yet?

I was going to ask the same question. I pre paid on Friday night and have not heard anything from Shopto - my order is still showing as a Pre-Order even though its paid. I think it is odd if they send my copy of BF4 in a different package to the console, what a waste of money for shipping fees. Also if they require a signature and the game is delivered on thursday that means I will have to go to the Post Office depot before it closes at 1:30pm the same day I am waiting for my PS4 to be delivered! In effect I will be tempted to get up at 6am just to get to the post office and back before 7:30 to ensure I don't miss the PS4. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Why has that graph got a key next to it when the x axis is already labelled with that information? Also, where is the PS2? And what's a GCN - a GameCube Nintendo?

NGC is also shorthand for National Geographic Channel. This caused… issues in the US, so they swapped the N to the other side.

Nope

Just hope they don't do a repeat of the WiiU launch, where actual pre-order date effectively meant sod all. I was one of the first to pre-order a machine (same with PS4) and one of the last to actually receive it.

Hopefully they have learnt and got there shit together this time, although this early payment fiasco isn't the best of starts either.

Shopto say payment info emails were delayed due to volume of orders, will refund upon request. Will make second attempt I failed payments at a later date

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-18-shopto-apologises-to-ps4-pre-order-customers-after-taking-money-without-warning

Thats a really lame excuse.

Sounds like they panicked and decided to grab the cash before too many cancelled.

Meaning you didn't get it on launch day? Did you get any compensation?

If I remember rightly it was more like certain people who ordered it a week prior to launch got theirs a day early.. where as I got mine the following day (Launch day). So I didn't lose out as such but it did make a bit of a mockery of their pre-order process.

Can't imagine for a second anyone will be getting their PS4's a day early though.

I ordered mine at 9:35am on the 11th November 25 minutes before they apparently were not guaranteeing for launch day any longer. In view of this I raised a ticket last week asking to confirm mine was guaranteed for launch day, to which they confirmed it would. Surely that would mean yours is all good.

Haha that sounds like "I'm a guy but I'm still able to say if another man is good looking or not".

Jesus people, we're not Gamefaqs. (not having a go at you btw, just an observation)

But, but I have a Wiiu and I bought it when it was full price that's how forward thinking I am. I always buy consoles when they have no games which is why I'm going for PS4 this time.

The launch hasn't been handled exactly well by Shopto, has it? Seems like one fuck up after the other.

Like remember when they cancelled that guy's order just for slagging them off indirectly on Twitter.

That was Simplygames.

ShopTo used to be my first port of call but they seem to be amongst the most expensive options these days, unfortunately. I am getting my PS4 from them but it's just the console as the bundles were all pretty pointless.

I have no reason to defend them but I think that's a little harsh.

The only cock up I believe they've made is charging people early without telling them which they've apologised for? How else have they 'fucked up'?

They were the only retailer still guaranteeing consoles up to a few weeks before launch so will be serving a lot of last minute on boarders well. I had an order with amazon and they would tell me nothing about whether I was getting one. Shopto were all over it. They make one mistake that's annoyed people who were indecisive (though still offering refunds) and suddenly they're a bunch of cunts.

Nah, the Twitter scrap was ShopTo, not Simplygames. The guy got his PS4 for free in the end, the bastard.

You're right, I was confusing the Twitter spat with that forced bundle farce.

I've never had issues with ShopTo myself, although it baffles me that their website is still horrible after all these years. They're typically a good place to pick up instant PSN credit, mind.

I'm a little grumpy that shopto didn't bring their KZ bundle down in line with the Amazon price, obviously I'd prefer to save £20.

I'm also a little grumpy that the console is exempt from their reward card scheme.

If I wasn't such a big scaredy cat I'd have changed my preorder to amazon a couple of months ago.

It listed the console and all the games I'd ordered with dpd shipping at the end in such a way as to suggest it would all come together for those that were wondering. No idea if that's the case but it looked that way.

In the Xbox payment message they sent out, they said that was the case. Assume it's the same for PS4.

Cancelling shopto and going with my amazon order which says 29th delivery, I think.

No.

Please note:

● Customers who pre-ordered this console up to and including August 6 have been given an option to get a PS4 for release day

● Customers who pre-ordered this console from August 7 up to and including November 13 will receive their consoles before Christmas

● Customers who pre-order this console from November 14 will receive their consoles after Christmas

● Customers who cancel existing pre-orders and place a new order will not get their console for release day

SO...

Can you install disc-based games IN FULL to the HDD (like you can on the 360)? This is about the only thing I want to know, yet no one has mentioned it. Even checked the online PS4 manual, couldn't find it.

One of the main reasons I chose the 360 version of most games, to save hearing the PS3 Blu-Ray drive constantly scraping away (Call of Duty's where some of the worst!)

Amazon.com charged my card on day of dispatch for what it's worth. If in doubt contact them, they tend to have good service.

Install is automatic:

Install for the good of all
The first time you fire up any PS4 game disc, it will begin installing all of its data to the console’s built-in hard drive, with different games handling this in different ways – some will require players to sit through a one-time data caching process, while others will do it in the background during, say, an intro sequence or tutorial level. This will speed up load times and eliminate any performance differences between disc-based games and digital downloads, but it also means the PS4’s 500 GB hard drive – which only has 408 GB of free space, the rest being taken up by system software – may fill up faster than you might expect.
