PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Little bit more worried that this cold snap we're meant to be getting is going to cover the U.K in the white stuff and fuck us all up.

If this happens I suggest we all pick up a shovel and help out. It'll be beautiful. A real Christmas miracle.

Snow > PS4.

We win either way.

I'm following some "bricked PS4" stories on reddit, Sony seem to be very proactive about fixing stuff. Here is the latest:

I just wanted to update y'all. So sony handled my console exchange very awesomely. I called them on wednesday, and they overnighted me a shipping box, so I packed up my console and sent it in on thursday. By 8 pm on friday they had already sent out a new one and it came in at noon on saturday. And just wanted to let you know that it is working flawlessly. Surprising thing is it was already updated to 1.5 by the time I received it. Oh and they also sent me a whole new retail set, so I got an extra controller out of it. Thanks for all your kind words and support everyone. Just wanted to let you know the outcome. Hope to see you all online.

Hopefully ours come with 1.5 ready to go then.

I doubt it. I bet most of the UK PS4's have all been sitting awaiting delivery in a warehouse or are in transit before/at the same time as the US launch.

So dont see Sony opening so many units to update the firmware.

We will be doing a day 1 update.

We can only hope that the update will be an update of the current update! :)

They have charged me for the PS4 stuff as well as Zelda on the 3DS. Does this mean they are for some reason going to wait a week extra to ship Zelda or will it likely still go out on Thursday?

Done exactly the same thing with mine. Don't have an answer for you, but it's nice to know you're not alone.

I remember Sony doing something similar with the original PS1. When mine had the laser fault, I was on the phone to them and they sent a new console the next day and I exchanged at the door with my faulty unit.

But that was not the week after the launch so I would be doubtful that Sony could sort orders so close to Christmas especially if its turns out to be a common fault with lots of users. Even just 4000 faulty units would be a starin to replace so close to the busy delivery period in December.

Not really, if the fault (and personally I have seen no evidence of an inherent fault) is within standard projection of failed units everything will be fine.

At worst Sony will be working on a 1.5% failure projection, I'd assume in reality it will be closer to 0.5%. As such they will have kept back a small amount of stock to cover this off. Don't forget Sony have been doing PlayStation for 20 odd years and electronics for 50.

In the UK there customer service and responses are very good.

It's a real shame that due to a couple of scaremonger stories people are getting concerned. The kotaku story for instance mentions a few tweets! What exactly is a few out of 1 Million sales.

There is no endemic failure, if there would we would have seen it by now.

I asked Shopto a very similar question just the other day. Only the console is going out with DPD. Any games or accessories will be sent separately. Shopto said that they would arrive in time for launch. So I'm expecting them the day before.

Going by this you'll get Zelda sent when it would have normally been sent.

Another one, does anyone know the difference between the two PS4UPDATE.PUP files from Sony's website?

I've got one that is 308MB and another that is 859MB.

Also, I'm assuming this firmware makes no difference to UK/American machines?

Smaller file is the update. You'll only need the bigger one if you're adding a new HDD.

Sorry about the image quality but do you think we will get this in UK? It's on the US PSN store.

Not sure we'd need the non-accidental damage one. Isn't there an EU directive which states electronics must be good for two years?

Aye, US consumer law is rather poor compared to ours. Many things in the US only get 90days support for example.

I've pre-empted shopto by cancelling the couple of non console bits I had preordered and prepaying from paypal. Sending me a email of their plans two days after the date mentioned in them was quite poor and spurred me into action.

I just got an email from Shopto an hour ago informing me that they will start taking pre order payments from Saturday 16 th Nov. 2 days ago!!! That's a nice warning!

It's obviously a cock up that they didn't tell people. I imagine they are pretty busy at the moment.

Yea for some reason we all got that email this morning. Not happy. I wonder if the payment bounces do they email you to try again? If I go over drawn today and the bank charge me I shall be pissed. I will then have a strong word with Shopto as to why I got an email at least 3 days late, as did many others.
