PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I bought a Wii U recently, I spent most of last week playing Zombiu (the best dark souls experience since dark souls) and spent the entire weekend sitting slackjawed playing Wind Waker HD. It's most of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!

I'm excited to play Battlefield and Assassin's Creed on a console with acceptable performance finally, and to check out Killzone and Resogun. But I'd be lying if I said Link Between Worlds and Mario 3D World weren't the most exciting games coming out this month.

I was going to cancel, but ShopTo have charged my card now. I do want a PS4 eventually, but it doesn't have any launch titles that I want.

Might give their customer services a call to see if they can do anything, but I realise they obviously wanted to start processing orders early for a big launch so I should have cancelled by now. I did have someone interested in having it, but turns out he assumed I was buying it from a shop and would have a receipt to return it in the event of problems. Not so easy for a online retailer I suppose.

In other news, Shopto charged me for my PS4 last night. Not sure how I feel about this - I was expecting an email in advance detailing when this would happen (like I got for the Xbox One order that I subsequently cancelled).

I was hoping to see how things panned out this week before committing any cash. Certainly these failure stories are a concern and in truth I could easily wait a few weeks/months before picking one up, save for the excitement of being part of launch weekend.

I can understand why they would want to get as many orders processed and dealt with as soon as possible, they've got two big launches going on at the same time and a huge volume of units to pack.

That said, there are better ways to go about it. Do all the prepaid orders first*, and send everyone a message explaining their plan and inviting more people to prepay. I get paid a week before launch and them charging me now would be a pain. I'm about £70 short in paypal to just pay it now but I might just do it anyway just so they don't charge my card.

*none of them are leaving the warehouse until the same day anyway.

I'm still looking forward to getting hold of a PS4 and the launch line-up has more than enough quality games for me.

What I can't get my head around is the stream of posts in here recently about people discussing other systems. I mean it's not like there isn't a Wii U thread. Are they just shit stirring, or trying to convince themselves they've made the right decision? I mean if you want to discuss ZombiU, Wind Waker HD or Mario 3D why are you doing so in the bloody PS4 thread of all places?

Maybe I should check out the Wii U thread for Drive Club updates and the XBone thread for news of Gran Turismo!

Why not just take a £20 non-refundable deposit? Not likely to push people into hardship and provides some security to the retailer that their stock will be purchased.

I feel some sympathy for Shopto, as I imagine that their margins on hardware are pretty low, so they really need to get them out of the door quickly in order to make money on them. But expecting people to pay a couple of weeks in advance is not very fair IMO. I do not remember it being advertised, and it could screw a few people over if they used debit cards or get pushed over their credit limit.

I still haven't been charged I think. I have an order for the "not day one but before launch day" Mega Pack at Amazon at £430. I still haven't been offered the Mega Pack at Shopto.net and considering a bit of extra wait and £30 will get me a controller and camera...

But do I want to miss out on day one hype?

Right here is your answer as to why they're charging now. Although I agree that they should certainly have let people know they were going to and that two weeks might be a bit much. It does give people plenty of time to sort things like this out though.

Sort it out? They cancelled my order because of it!

Really? That's a bit shit. I thought they were specifically processing early to deal with this sort of thing. I remember having a similar issue a few years back and they just canceled my order with no communication. I've been really paranoid about that whenever I've dealt with them since. I assumed they would have improved. Apparently not.

I got an email telling me it was cancelled about 10 minutes after the bank phoned. Tried to email the seller directly and via play.com and nothing. Says on my order history that the order is cancelled too. Urgh!

Was buying the PS4 from base.com (but via play.com) so phoned base.com and they told me if I order the PS4 directly from them on their website using my same email address that I will still be in the preorder queue and in the same place in that queue. Reordered, fingers crossed!

Hmmm. DPD deliver between 9 and 6pm. I've got to pick the kids up at about half four. If they clash I'm going to have a very difficult decision on my hands. I mean, I'm fairly fond of them and everything but they could fend for themselves for a couple of hours, right?

DPD send you a text to tell you what time they'd roughly be arriving.

Yeah, and you can track the GPS co-ordinates of the van too.

And as it gets closer the map scale increases. And then he's actually ringing your bell coz there is a lag of about 3 deliveries, at least in Sarf London. Would be totally cool if you were somewhere totally out in the sticks to see the van coming out just for you.

If you place a preorder with someone you can't complain when they take your money. This discussion feels a bit silly.

I pre-paid for mine.

But it isn't. You give notice for Xbox one that you charging early then yeah fair enough. So why not do that for PS4?

People could end up having to pay overdraft fees or end up having it cancelled. They screwed up some peoples Xbox one orders because they charged for games and accessories alongside it. People thought they'd just charge for the Xbox one.

DPD are one of the best delivery companies I have used as the tracking of the parcel was within 5 mins of its projected time.

I also had the same issue with Shopto/Play when I bought my Zelda WW Wii U pack last month. They declined my card (even though it was fine!)and I had to re order to get the order sorted. I think I only got it through as luckly play.com rang me and I got it sorted.

Hope you get it sorted :)

How many PS4s do you think Shopto have sold? Is anyone else moderately concerned about the strain on DPD to deliver them all in one day?

No.

I'm sure Apple used them for the 4s launch and that was much bigger. If there is a strain then they could be cheeky and deliver it early.

Little bit more worried that this cold snap we're meant to be getting is going to cover the U.K in the white stuff and fuck us all up.

If this happens I suggest we all pick up a shovel and help out. It'll be beautiful. A real Christmas miracle.
