PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Sure the RROD shows the hazard of taking official statements as gospel? For like 18 months Microsoft insisted there was no problem, and failures were, "within industry standards" before coughing up a billion $.

I know there's a lot that's vague out there, but citing 0.4% seems as trustworthy as an unverified Amazon review.

Level load times of one minute sound way, way too long to me. Even getting it down to 30-40s isn't brilliant.

AC4 is open world (how long does GTA5 take to load in?), and CoD Ghosts probably shouldn't be used as a yardstick for any technical feats.

The rest of them are 32 seconds or less.

The 0.4% figure was from before it was released when the only people with one were media outlets and people who won one from Taco Bell.

They've reiterated it since in statements to IGN and Kotaku. Like I said, keep an eye on the number.

There are fixes for both commonly reported errors:

If it bricks during the firmware update, turn it off, unplug the hard drive, turn it on and wait for a "plug in a hard drive" message. Turn it off, plug the hard drive back in, turn it back on. It'll reinstall the OS and away it goes.

If you have the HDMI issue, check for a bit of metal inside the socket stopping the cable from being fully inserted. Bend it back flush with the plastic using a pin or something similar.

There's no fix for the BLOD thing, I think footle might be right that it's an HDCP issue.

The two problems that are more worrying are the overheating and the loud fan thing. Haven't seen many reports of those but haven't seen any fixes either.

Having watched a few streams on twitch I'm very impressed with how well it works.

I hadn't thought about it much before but it could be pretty amazing. I've already posted in the football league thread about how they could potentially have a televised season. Maybe that could lead to other people supporting the teams or something.

Also, if people are arguing on the forum maybe they could have a fight in a game with the whole forum tuning in to watch or something. Imagine that pressure?

I like that idea that people can use videos to augment their opinions on the forum, backing up points with video clips and narration.

Televised leagues sounds a great idea. I'd be tempted to get back into FIFA and the likes if that took off.

You could hold a full X Factor type competition using Singstar (when it comes out), with the viewers doing the voting.

I get the whole appeal of a new Mario game but I just can't see what else the Wii U has to offer. When I look at the 2014 lineup it's sparse to say the least - something that can't be levelled at either of the new machines.

Maybe it's because I don't see the appeal of Mario kart or bayonetta 2 compared to Driveclub, 2nd Son, The Order, Uncharted and all the 3rd party titles that won't appear on Nintendo hardware or be gimped in some way.

Each to their own I suppose - my preorder is staying where it is though :)

The difference is that the WiiU already has some amazing games and has more to come this year. I already have one so don't have to make the decision between a PS4 or a WiiU but I can quite understand why Kyuss and Jashin have decided to drop the PS4 at the minute. I'm actually finding myself considering it.

So it sounds like the problem with the sticks wearing away incredibly quickly is an actual thing and not just some demo units being fucked up quickly. Those with broken machines should at least be thankful that being unable to play any games means they won't be able to wear their controller out.

Link to any tangible evidence or source? Rushy said he had been using his for hours a day for 6 months and there is not a mark on it.

More scaremongering?
