PlayStation 4 Console Thread

The troubleshooting thread on Neogaf (with various fixes) is certainly a bit of a concern. But by the time I get mine, (after launch, before Christmas) I'm hoping some of these things will be cleared up. If I cancel mine, I'm worried the wife won't be as positive about getting one later on!

I wonder if the Euro PS4's are manufactured at different plants to the US ones.

There are probably several plants making them, but if they are split by region is up for debate, and something we may never know. It depends on any identifiable marks, 360's had markings for specific factories on the packaging, but I'm not sure if Sony have used a similar system.

Sony are probably using an auto switching PSU again so the only internal difference should be the region coding on dvds and BD's.

I was hoping Boogie2988 would be doing something but he's vanished

He's on his honeymoon isn't he, him being at the NYC event was a combination of his own plans and Sony's marketing.

The PS4 is OS is definitely quirky. This will not be easy for some people. To go online you have to have PSN account for multiplayer, and it would not let me skip the step to enter a credit card. I reluctantly gave them mine but think that is crap if they force this, and not all families will have one.

It is not always clear if a game is installed all the way, if a download needed is download and installed, or just downloaded. Sometimes you have to start a game to install the update it seems.

For anyone having problems playing COD ghosts multiplayer...

New PS4, COD ghosts first game to insert into console.

Game installed. Prompted for download update. Already had another game downloading.

Went back to home screen since game had a download.

Tried to play game again, when hitting multiplayer, game just froze.

Next went to downloads, multiplayer update was not there. I then deleted the game from PS4, put disk back in. Then clicked on multiplayer and it prompted for download.

Went back to home screen and waited for multiplayer updated to confirm it downloaded.

Clicked on COD again. Multiplayer would not load. Went to home screen.

At this point I realized I was switched between game and home screen, game never exited. Started another application and PS4 said it would close COD ghosts.

Then I opened COD again, which this time meant it was loading the game up again, and this time it said it was updating the game install. Clicked on multiplayer and it worked.

Let's hope there's a refinement of all this before uk launch!

I cant help but think that the xbone will provide a much smoother and slicker experience concerning UI navigation, online multiplayer options (joining friends, parties and matchmaking etc) and updates.

See although this will be Sony's first attempt at a lot of the stuff like parties and matchmaking etc (sorry not sure how it works on Vita) the promo videos shown so far looked like it'd be pretty slick, so I'm hoping it's just down to people not knowing how it all works yet.

Are you implying that Sony shipped dodgy consoles to Amazon?

Are you implying that Amazon broke there allocation through bad shipping?

In fact WTF are you asking with this question?

Just checking as most complaints I have seen have come from Amazon orders. So just wondering if there was maybe a batch sent to them which accounts for the bulk of the problems.

I am likely wrong but just thinking out loud.

This one seems quite loud!

It got me thinking though. I wonder if there's any correlation between overheating machines and their positioning. Maybe standing it vertically affects the fan or something. Just a thought.

I don't think it's down to positioning. This one is horizontal and making a similar sound. Abut 3 minutes into the video it starts making some jet engine like sound?

Well I've had a crap PS4 evening. Been trying to play Battlefield4 for the last hour but I just get to the menu and it says my save data is corrupt do I want to overwrite (there is only one option - yes. lol) and then it gives me an error and returns to the dashboard. Kept trying but no such luck. Same kept happening. My save better not really be corrupt :( I've never experienced that ever during last gen.

Let's roughly double the best-guess of 0.4% to 1% Now double it again to 2% just to be sure.

Now let's look at reported hardware failure rates for some other parts or manufacturers...

To be fair, though, a DOA rate is not comparable with a lifetime hardware failure rate. I don't know if the PS4 has meaningful problems or not but I'm pretty the figures you quote aren't meaningfully relatable to what we've seen so far for Sony's console.
