PlayStation 4 Console Thread

It's not its name, it's basically the equivalent of "Micro$oft" in most of the cases in which it's used, which yeah, just makes it very difficult to take seriously.

Except Micro$oft is no shorter (and in fact harder) to type than Microsoft, so exists solely as a pejorative, whereas Bone is a contraction of Xbox One which also carries a hint of mockery. As the choice of contractions available to the Xbox One are The One or Bone, and the former hurts my soul, I'm going to be using Bone until another contraction rises into regular use. So, PS4 and Bone until someone comes up with a better option.

i quiet like the idea they are using for assassins creed and the lack of shoulder buttons on the vita, they are splitting the rear touch pad and having it act as L2 and R2

I'd rather have the option to put four buttons (or at least two of them) in the corners of the screen though, I find the back touch really awkward to use.

That's a great point about the remote play actually. I tend to usually avoid side missions on a lot of games, but using the Vita when I don't have access to the main TV, I can have that time to try out the stuff I would usually ignore on big games.

If on Fallout 4 for example, I play a few hours of the game doing the main story, then over the next couple of evenings when there is stuff Lo wants on the TV, I use that time to do the side-quests I may have missed.

14 days!!!! So excited!

It amazes me that MS managed to get the name market researched and focus grouped and they never checked what happens when you replace "Xbox" with "XB" as happened with every other Xbox they released.

I think the process happened organically within about half an hour of the name being revealed and probably just as quick, simultaneously, in every other social group that needed a quicker handle than "Xbox One".

What's derogatory about Bones anyway? If they'd had any social media PR savvy, you know, like Sony has, they would have embraced the shit out of it once they realised it had escaped them, and laughed it up along with the rest of us - easily the best way to draw the sting.

But, no. Instead the MS response is to ignore it, or at best have mouthpiece Hryb get all pompous and say he didn't care for it, and it devalued the work everyone had put in. So now we all call it the bone and chuckle, and it's become (rightly or wrongly) a badge of the poor view of the console that large portions of the gaming community still have (temporarily of course).

But, seriously, there can't be many people on any gaming forum in the world who couldn't do a better job advising MS how to play to the social media gallery than the people they currently have in charge.

You're right. We should call it Microsoft® Xbox One® every time.

The Giant Bomb stream is like watching five dudes with not much to say sitting on a sofa.

Someone give them a couple of bottles of Jack Daniels.

At least it's better than watching them snarky fuckers at Polygon during their 12 hour stream. Anyone else catch it ? Fuck me it was awful (from the very little I seen of it) with them all talking utter pish. It really does show how good the Giantbomb guys are at doing what they do.

It's a fair point, but I'm sure you all see where I'm coming from. How can anyone complain about people being Microsoft fanboys while in the same sentence referring to Xbox One in a derogatory way as "the Bone?" It just makes them sound exactly like what they're complaining about.

Dunno. I'm marked up on the forum as a Microsoft fanboy, despite not intending to buy an XBone for six months or so - and I think of it, and refer to it, as the XBone.

On Idle Thumbs I heard (not sure if a joke) that on one of the basketball games the Kinect listens to you, and awards your opponent a technical foul if you swear. I really hope this is true.

It is, they did it on FIFA too.

Because that's what Microsoft called it. No point saying that people calling an XBone a Bone are somehow making shit up to be mean.

I imagine if Sony had named their new console the Playstation Hit there would be similar problems.
