Gah, just got a call from Sainsbury's to say the order I placed today for the mega-bundle won't be honoured as it's sold out, despite the online order going through.

Bollox.

Unlucky !!

Mine has been added to the processing screen.

Despite the meltdown many are having about some review scores I'm actually feeling I made a mistake not pre-ordering a console. Killzone looks like great fun and as a fan of the series I'd love to get my hands on that. Might put my name down for one and keep my fingers crossed for a unit before Xmas.

Although the other thing I've learned over the last few days is that I find a huge section of the gaming community (fanboys, hyperbole idiots, Youtube fat angry retards) to almost be enough to make me want to walk away from the hobby. It's embarrassing.

Killzone quick look.

Watching the Polygon live stream has made it apparent just how good the Giant Bomb guys are at what they do. Their live streams and quick looks are always interesting and at least a little funny. Arthur should not be presenting anything, it's just so dry.

The Giantbomb guys are also not rushing their reviews and they say they want to take their time. Can't think of any other big sites doing that.

Why are people suddenly cancelling their pre-orders? I can't see anything in any game reviews that's any different to what everyone guessed on first clapping eyes on them.

Knack is shit, Killzone is gorgeous and good and Resogun is marvellous.

The only review I've seen recently that's been even vaguely unexpected is that Assassins Creed 4 seems to be excellent.

But yeah, the more people that cancel the more chance I have of getting one, so knock yourselves out. :)

Remember when OPM used to give away Yaroze games? Those days were fucking brilliant.

Maybe that's why I liked XBLIG so much.

They had the MGS demo* and the best-Yaroze-games compendium on the same issue. That disk pretty much sold a PlayStation on its own.

*The best demo ever. You could find C4 and a Nikita hidden in there if you looked around so you could spend hours screwing about.

That's one thing that's been bugging me. Didn't all these sites only get the review equipment yesterday? Less than 24 hours to play and write a review? Seems a little like everyone rushing to get impressions out.

Pausable cut scenes in Killzone confirmed! I hope it is a damn system level requirement because it's always been a guessing game, wondering if you'll be pausing or skipping.

They got retail kits yesterday, dev hardware has been available as well.

This is such bullshit. All the positives are because it looks nice, and all the negatives are because it plays like shit. 8/10. This is what we've become.

Yep, this is a highly worrying trend - one which you see on here a lot, sadly.

I'm still getting it. 2 and 3 consistently scored about 7-8, and this seems to be doing the same. I'll post up a video review for you Smitty, with some commentary. Because consoles let you do that shit now which is fucking amazing.

Yeah, I want it to be good....I won't pass judgement until I play it on hard.

I think Crash! was the last magazine I read where this wasn't the "trend."

Someone once told me "Stu, you'll enjoy this", of Mass Effect. 3 games later it's my favourite series of games ever. I hold more stock in those few words than any review I've read online of late. I mean shit, I'm excited to play KZ because you once commented I was missing out on that sort of thing having never owned/played a PS3.

tl;dr - sod reviews.

The great videogame worm has started to eat itself. Still, gives me something to write about in 10 years time.

Based on the PS2 launch line-up it was doomed and the Dreamcast would rule the world. All we're really seeing is typical early adopter games. The huge stride forward launch games are few and far between. A console is about it's term of life, not the first day.

See I like the Polygon people because I listen to the Besties podcast, which for me has some really good discussion on the games and they usually call each other out on their bullshit which reminds me of the 1up Yours glory days. No Arthur Gies on that pod either, so that's a bonus. I don't really visit the site but it sure does look pretty.

I think both of the next gen threads should have been nuked from orbit but I did end up feeling more sorry for the Xbox guys. As the underdogs this time round those guys have sure taken a kicking for showing interest in a console that isn't the forum favourite. Christ just a few days ago Haribo posted some such bullshit as "imagine being so stupid that you're paying more for an underpowered console". Shit like that we don't need on here.

I think you're forgetting (it seems) that msoft brought all this bad press upon themselves.

People who defend them are bound to get a ripping, it was no different when PS3 launched, Sony (and anybody who defended them) took a slagging.

If it was the other way around Sony would be taking msofts current beating.

I bought a 360 on launch and never considered a PS3...until msoft pulled all that drm/internet required crap.

Whether you agree or disagree the fact is that the majority of gamers didn't want it.

It also left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that now i can't stand the sight of them.

Their hardware hasn't exactly helped either, personally i think they blew it.

I was hoping for an xbox that was powerful and added to the great experience i've had on the 360 but c'est la vie.

Maybe next time.

As for the consoles wars stuff, what else would we be talking about if not this?

A lot of it has been fun apart from when it gets personal or too vulgar.

Maybe, but i can remember a significantly bigger jump between generations than we are seeing here.
