I don't get why its depressing.

A little disappointing that there were no real shocks in the scores but there are enough 7+ titles to suit most folks.

It will be a bummer if Xbone has a few screamers but I suspect they will be broadly similar.

Aye depressing is a bit strong. Disappointing i suppose is a better word as I hoped either knack or kill zone would be better than the luke warm expectations I, and i suppose many, had for them.

Also I thought Sony and ms were originally aiming for 2012 next gen and only switched in early 2012. Thus has longer to develop. Guess the ps4 and Xbox line ups prove that very wrong!

I don't read Polygon. I can't talk about them from first hand experience. Every single time someone mentions them, however, it's like the poster is unearthing a portal to some dimension of pure, gibbering journalistic madness.

Are they genuinely, consistently this bizarre? I mean 'why would Sony support their products and attempt to sell more of them while providing additional value for money?' in the above example is mindblowing.

To paraphrase its a machine marketed as doubling down on games, without any good games and with few announced platform exclusives coming up anytime soon. And the user interface could do with some work, and lacks some basic features (library, friend management etc.)

Hardly a surprise, but I'm not sure "oh its just polygon" is a fair response either.

Just because the scores for the exclusive games aren't all that we're throwing around accusations of bias and money hats. Not everyone is part of this little posse but you know who you are and it's pretty pathetic.

Anyone considering switching to Xbox or maybe a Wii U? I mean that new Mario looks and plays incredible and is out the same day. You'd save money and probably have the best game of the year.

The games press haven't exactly endeared themselves to many people this year though and when you have websites like Polygon making wanky documentaries about how 'hard' it is to be a reviewer, have people like Arthur Gies on staff AND accept money from Microsoft then yes you can make arguments about bias, whether they be true or not.

What I do find truly pathetic though is the petty sniping and arguing that has occurred in both the PS4 and Xbox One threads on here during the year. Some of the worst shitposts I've seen on here. Of which you were a part of. So you have precisely fuck all right to call anyone pathetic.

I was looking at the text more than the score. It doesn't sound like my kinda game. I was hoping for something like a 3D platformer, something more like Mario. This sounds like Devil May Cry or something but with cartoon characters and inept combat.

If some reviewers found the combat to be 7 or 8/10, that's cool, but I wasn't looking for a combat focussed game. I'm never looking for combat focussed games. So Knack isn't for me, it turns out.

I do believe wobblegate stems from the PS4 only having three 'feet' so being less stable at the edges of one side. Pretty poor design, probably done so it looks nicer when stood vertically.

Speaking of Killzone, it looks god damn pretty in this Polygon live stream. I imagine like Ryse, it's going to be one of those games just to have a look at what graphics the next gen will offer.

Personally, I couldn't give a monkeys if KZ and Knack have been getting 7s etc, I didn't really expect any less but I'm still not giving MS £80 more for a less powerful console with forced Kinect and their previous (no doubt to return) DRM wankery.

MS may have had an about face after the huge shitstorm but they burnt that bridge for me and they can fuck right off until a good year or two in my opinion.

Well after today I'm still looking forward to KZ but perhaps not quite as much as I was this morning, disappointing that it degenerates into a rather dull corridor em up (allegedly). Oddly it is now AC4 I'm most keen on, especially after the positive views it's been getting here. Resogun I'll be getting but only because it's free - I've no doubt it's brilliant but I'm not (and never have been) particularly into bullet hell shooters.

Why are there no reviews of Planetside or Warframe etc?

The Sainsbury's phone-jockey said there were 'loads' of new bundles coming in next week. But he didn't know what they consisted of and said my current order wouldn't count as a reservation for anything else.

But he did promise I had grade-1, super-special priority for any more PS4's that arrive. Except he didn't know when the bundles would be on sale. And I have to just make sure I'm checking the Sainsbury's website every minute every day until one pops up.

The new Mario does interest on WiiU but it's not a system seller like it used to be for me. XBox I'm boycotting on principal after that E3, so even if they had a row of stone-cold classics for launch it still wouldn't be in consideration. A year or two down the road, perhaps, once I've seen how things play out with system power/MS' sneaking their horrific ideas back in.

See I like the Polygon people because I listen to the Besties podcast, which for me has some really good discussion on the games and they usually call each other out on their bullshit which reminds me of the 1up Yours glory days. No Arthur Gies on that pod either, so that's a bonus. I don't really visit the site but it sure does look pretty.

I think both of the next gen threads should have been nuked from orbit but I did end up feeling more sorry for the Xbox guys. As the underdogs this time round those guys have sure taken a kicking for showing interest in a console that isn't the forum favourite. Christ just a few days ago Haribo posted some such bullshit as "imagine being so stupid that you're paying more for an underpowered console". Shit like that we don't need on here.

I've cancelled my preorder with amazon. Have been thinking of doing so for a while, but the reviews today just crystallized the fact that there's nothing worth playing that I can't play at near twice the resolution, with higher settings, at a higher frame rate on my PC. I'll come back if/when Demons' Souls 2 or similar is announced. I was really quite excited about one, but there's less differentiation across systems than in generations gone by, it seems to me.
