PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Just imagine if Sony high-fived Valve and let them go full-bore with all the Steam stuff (besides selling games!) on PS4. TF2 and DOTA2 would be two easy shoe-ins, so long as Sony allowed USB mice/keys for DOTA.

I'd love it if Sony's E3 presentation was just a slide with a price and release date on it, then Gaben walks on, says "Exclusively on PlayStation 4 for consoles: Team Fortress 3, Left4Dead3, Portal 3. Oh yeah, what was that other game we were working on with a 3 in it?", drops the mike and walking off.

Bollocks, just realised that Sony's E3 press conference is 2am Tuesday UK. So, I won't be watching that live, then.

Presume it's for Japanese scheduling, as well as US? But could/should have done it at 4pm LA, midnight UK, 8am Tokyo.

And the Bone will be at 5:30pm Monday, so will have to find somewhere sneaky to watch that at work... man, these neverending 1st world problems!

And Apple WWDC at 6pm Monday too. So I'll be trying to watch 2 together and I'll miss Sony.

Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3 had keyboard, mouse and third party add on support in 2007. Unreal Tournament on PS2 had keyboard and mouse support! Sony has never had any problem letting developers do that, in stark contrast to Microsoft.

It's pretty amazing that you can pick up your PS4 on launch day without any games and still have a couple of online games available for nowt. These will all be very nice early in the life of the console and I can see people getting hooked and actually making purchases in them.

Glad to see Planetside 2 finally confirmed! It would imagine it runs a little choppy for my PC, even if it does outdo most multi-platform ports 90% of the time.

I'm very excited if these digital releases of F2P games will provide the same standard features as their retail brethren. Vita Remote Play to collect your daily bonuses on Blacklight: Retribution and Warframe would be superb. In fact, it would just be great to play Blacklight full stop - By the time it hit Steam, it lost quite a bit of traction in terms of players. Having a whole console userbase jump into the game at launch will be excellent. It seems a lot of fun from the scant time I've played with it, in comparison to Warframe.

Can we have Rusty Hearts as well, please? Its Anime trappings can cause people to vomit uncontrollably, but It's a real natty side-scrolling beat 'em up, with a nice bit of loot whoring on the side.

I would not be surprised if Naughty Dog announce something as well. They've already said they are keeping their PS3 engine for PS4 and will just make changes and additions where needed. Plus IIRC The Last of Us was made by the UC2 team while UC3 was done by another team, so it's not outside the realms of possibility.

I do think not bundling the camera at launch is a mistake, even if it may cost a bit. I can't imagine it'll take off as a separate device.

I can't imagine it'll take off as a bundled one, just a lot of people will have it.

I hope so. The one I'm really curious about is the new Ready at Dawn game. Some promising industry buzz about that one. They really made the PSP sing, you wonder what they could do with the PS4.

I'm really not sure what they're doing with DCUO. It's not really changed for a long time. It's a reasonably competent F2P MMO but there's really not much to it once you've reached a certain level. The missions are really quite generic and the DLC add-ons just add different skins/skills etc.

It'd be great if they're going to launch a re-vamped DCUO for PS4 as it has loads of potential.

Good to see PS2 getting a release; it's a great game but like the original, it's a little marred by having a business model which has put a lot of people off who I'm sure would like it if they gave it the chance (Planetside 1 came in an era where people didn't really "get" the idea of a pay-to-play FPS, and many dismissed Planetside 2 when it was on the way out purely because it was freemium).

It'll need serious work done in order to be a console game, though. The interface is nowhere near capable as it is right now.

It'll be great to potentially get a RLLMUK crowd on it. I tried to interest people in the game but it launched at the same time as Guild Wars 2 and its system requirements were too high for a lot of people.

Pretty much this. I've been mulling over in my head about what to pick up. Do I prefer the pure scale of Planetside 2 for free or the graphical fidelity of Killzone 4 for >£40? It's not really a choice in my mind.

Planetside reminds me of Warhawk which was a brilliant game back in the early PS3 days. I'm now just waiting to hear what is said at the conference and then I'm going to throw a pre order down.
