PlayStation 4 Console Thread

There is a reason why we didn't show you the PS4 "box" and only the controller. That is because when you go to a store, you only buy a PS4 controller at launch with a special activation code. There is no "console" in the traditional sense. The PS4 is still black. It is still about endless possibilities. It is more powerful than the xbox one but it technically is also bigger...by a fraction.

Confused? Well, you use your dual shock 4 to connect to the PS4 remotely, not like the "cloud". The cloud is shit, it just turns into rain or ruins a sunny day.

The PS4 IS INFINITE, BLACK,HAS A DETACHABLE CAMERA (WE WILL NEED SEVERAL LIGHT YEARS NOTICE TO REMOVE IT FOR YOU), THE PS4 IS ...SPACE!

It'll be so black that it will absorb 100% of the visible light that hits it, and so will look like a solid shadow.

So perhaps they did show it back in Feb, but as it reflected exactly zero photons nobody realised we'd already seen it, and Sony are just too cool to explain.

Cerny walks out on stage.

"HERE'S THE NEW PS4!"

The curtain rises to reveal a perspex box full of components, somewhat resembling a terrible see-through plastic third-party N64 controller.

"Here at Sony we don't hide our hardware behind BULLSHIT".

Drops the mic. Walks off.

Edit: Fucking hell, Sean. I thought I would be the only person to think of Orac after reading Moz's post.

Another free-to-play game has been announced for PS4, Warframe.

I've put several hours into the PC version and it should be a great fit for console. It's a bit like Mass Effect 3's multiplayer but you're moving through a generated area rather than stuck in an arena, and you can pull off some rather fancy acrobatics if you're so inclined. It was rather on the repetitive side which is why I stopped playing, but they seem to be adding stuff regularly so I imagine the game will be more full-featured upon its PS4 release; it's still in Beta, technically.

My guess would be that PC with PhysX on is close to how the console version will look, so here's some footage of that in lieu of a proper PS4 trailer:

Warframe is actually a pretty cool game. It was Digital Extremes initial idea for Dark Sector before they had to change it. I'm not sure how good/bad the pay model is but it's still cool to see a game like that come to console.

I'm actually wondering how many F2P games will be appearing on the console at/near launch. Blacklight Retribution is due as well isn't it ?

Warframe being released at launch with the PS4 is excellent news - I've already bleated about it in the Warframe thread, but it's basically just really fun in Co-Op, although it WILL tire people out with the samey environments (although they do change up from time to time - some of the outdoor levels are lovely) and the massive amount of grinding required to unlock fancier weapons. Not like they're needed mind, because running along walls just to backflip over an enemy and fill them full of bullets with akimbo pistols never gets old. Ever.

They should put on the PS4 Console Box 'Comes with unmitigated levels of MOTHERFUCKING SHOOTBANG'.
