PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Netflix is decent across all the consoles I've tried it on in my opinion (though oddly quite a different experience on all three).

Try watching something on 4OD on the PS3, then come back and moan about the Netflix app.

I was actually thinking of whether or not Sony would but they introduced Cinavia protection anyway so there really isn't a reason why they wouldn't. It will be interesting to see if MS relax their thing on 1080p video, iirc you could only watch stuff in 1080p if you got it from them directly.

That's got more to do with them writing a shoddy system for streaming video apps but not using it themselves.

Why do people say this all the time? I use 360 Netflix UK for preference (Apple TV for Netflix US), largely because my 360 is quieter than my PS3. What have I missed?

Better UI by miles. Better video/image quality too IIRC, something to do with the 360 secretly being 720p? They've also just updated it so that whenever you skip backwards and forwards you get a thumbnail showing where you're skipping to, which is quite useful. A bit like pressing square on the native PS3 video player.

I get the video thumbnail on some 360 apps so it's doable.

Proper 1080p and not-fucked black levels.

The PS3 interface for 4OD may be shoddy and prone to crashes, but because we're not a valuable demographic, is at least watchable. On iPad the interface is good, but is basically just an advert viewing app, interspersed with tiny extracts of Homeland.

Comparison here.. think the PS3 is only the one to avoid for Lovefilm - it was/is? sub HD

LoveFilm's been fixed since that article. It's pretty good now! 4oD is the worst one. It's crashes and hangs my PS3 way too often. Looks like Sky's Now TV is on its way to PS3 too.

Like I said, go to the youtube app and go to the 4OD channel. I think. Will test tonight :)

It's different again on the Boxee and Apple TV. Very odd how it does that.

Excuse my simpleton question, but can we expect everything on this machine to be in 1080p instead of upscaled 720p?

The possibility that Sony are pushing for 1080/60 with developers (PLEASE DO!) popped up in (yet another) XB1 article on Eurogamer today.

"According to Gilray, [Stewart, boss of Oddworld developer Just Add Water] this could see PS4 games enjoy a slight performance advantage over their Xbox One brethren.

"We might see slightly smoother framerates on PS4," he said. "We're working with Sony right now, and they're trying to actively push 60 frames per second, 1080p. You might get situations where the graphics will be a little, but not much, lower quality on the Xbox One. Or, you might get some fixed at 30 frames per second situations in 1080p. It depends on the scale of the game. If your game is going to push the heck out of the PS4, you might have to do some little tweaks [for the Xbox One version]. But if you design your game to work on Xbox One at 60, it's going to work on PS4 at 60."
