PlayStation 4 Console Thread

This may be perception but I think there's a lot fewer of those on the 2 non-Nintendo machines than there used to be.

Sony have a lot more first party exclusives than Microsoft. If they are better or not is a different debate, a lot of the first party Sony games are not big budget blockbusters but rather cheaper shelf fillers. For every God of War there are 2 or 3 games like Sorcery.

I think you are right on third party games though, Microsoft have more or less parity with Sony on that front. Most developers would rather do both than take the risk with just one.

Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Killzone, Resistance, Wipeout, Infamous, God of War, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Disgaea, Persona. Plus there are lots of individual games rather than series, such as The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Guacamelee!, Ni No Kuni (although I gather there was a DS version?), The Last Guardian (lol). Whether they're all relevant nowadays is another question (Resistance), but there's no doubt Sony have a lot of good exclusives - and I'm sure I've forgotten loads. I think Sony may have more than Microsoft, although I'm not entirely certain, but there's still enough exclusives around on either side for it still to matter I think.

tbh, Microsoft have basically fuck all, which is probably why I thought there were a lot less.

I more meant that you wouldn't miss out on much by being a PC only gamer and looking at that list there's little I'd actually miss, especially as I note you've included a couple of Vita only ones there.

We're certainly in the position where for my first console release as an adult, they have to convince me I want them rather than me being in the default position of "NEW SHINY WANT" and neither are actually doing much of a job of that yet, E3 will be interesting.

For persona he has, but otherwise his list is all on ps3 and most of them will surely make it to Ps4 in some form.

Although it will take a couple of years for enough of those games to be released for them to be an actual advantage rather than a potential advantage. Like The Last Guardian, even if he said it as a joke ;)

At least Sony seem to give a shit about their exclusives/first party games (in general anyway). I'm still REALLY pissed at Microsoft for how they treated one of my favourite games this gen, Crackdown. They don't have that many exclusives in the first place and they then dilly dally like a bunch of fuckin arseholes in giving Realtime Worlds the greenlight, leave it too late so they go off and do their own thing, get another company formed quickly to make Crackdown 2 and then give them a year or less to make it. It then surprisingly doesn't turn out as good as the original. They didn't give a fuck at all, cunts.

Actually, now I think about it is the next Persona game (I assume 5) actually going to be a Sony exclusive? Persona 4 Arena is on the 360 as well and it seems that might be the only Persona game we see on current gen consoles (handhelds excluded). I haven't really heard anything about 5 so I have no idea what the plan is.

I did feel the same about being PC only for a couple of years - I didn't feel like I was missing much, but Sony have built up a collection of exclusives that I'm actually quite interested in playing. I've missed Uncharted 3, God of War 3/Ascension, Ni No Kuni, Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Disgaea 4, Yakuza 4, Killzone 2/3, Okami HD and Infamous. Plus a few collections (Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter) and The Last of Us and Beyond coming out later this year. I can't be bothered to list all the games though, especially as there are a few multiformat ones there (Red Dead Redemption, Castlevania: Lord of Shadow, Persona 4 Arena etc). Anyway, suffice it to say I'm quite impressed with Sony's exclusives at the moment.

P5 isn't official so it's hard to know. P4 Arena was developed by Arc Systems Works (BlazBlue, Guilty Gear) and their titles tend to be multiplatform. But the Persona team made Catherine on Ps3 and 360, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything either. Given the market for the game it wouldn't surprise me if it was PS3 and maybe Vita only. I'd be surprised if they made a 360 version but not hugely.

It'll happen, PS3 too. The internet always works this shit out.

I'll be impressed by whoever manages to reverse engineer and have running on a reasonable spec PC either the X360 or PS3, without resorting to accessing illegal tech docs reserved for internal use, both of them have some funky crap going on, much like the original Xbox.

As time goes on, I'm of the opinion that emulation becomes more out of reach without some serious resources to make it happen as the complexity of the target systems keeps on going up.

They got the PS2 sorted, and that was made from funky Japanese space magic.
