PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Moved my PS4 upstairs so it's out of the TV cabinet and back to open air all around. I've played Diablo 3 for about an hour a night for the past 3 nights or so. I'm on for 5 minutes tonight when it spits the disc out. So, twiddling the screw, rebuild, static discharge (turning it off), making sure it's not overheating, literally removing the rubber stand directly by the eject button. Noting.

Fuck this machine and fuck Sony.

stick some small rubber feet in each corner, never had an issue with disc ejecting since then. I actually put them on as it was getting too hot (launch model) and thought it might help with ventialtion

Like, raise it up a bit with blue tack? Ok, will give that a whirl. I put my hands to the sides and cool air was coming out when it spat the disc out, though.

But yes, I wouldn't buy a 1st gen model at this point. The chances of something going wrong on them seems relatively high.

I'll probably get another one next year for the kids and hopefully by then we'll know how much better the newer model is.

On the subject of things not being particularly sturdy, my controller d-pad sticks every once in a while nowadays. Ever since the kids started using it. Not looking forward to having to fork out £40 for a replacement if anything else goes on it.

The pads are fucking shit. The left stick on one of mine stutters when pressing up, a common problem apparently. The serial numbers actually rub off the back of them too.

yeah, and the rubber coming off the sticks that a lot of people seemed to have. and both mine have developed problems with R2. the R2 thing seems pretty common in the driveclub timetrial thread so probably affects people holding down R2 a lot.

Pretty hard to get worse than 6 hours. My original pad had zero serial by the end, left stick rubber hanging off, I think the back sticker had entirely peeled. The touchpad looked like a monkeys nutsack and the battery lasted as long as a standard Match of the Day. Great pad, questionable first batch, and the pissing blue light on it can fudge off, ruining game atmospheres by lighting up the darkness.

Well, the wife found some of those little pads you stick on furniture so it doesn't mark floors and walls, so the PS4 is nicely raised maybe 5 or 6mm off the surface it's on. Also, I ripped that eject button off. I might just hurl it out the window if it ejects a disc mid-game now. Although, 90 minutes of Diablo and not a squeak. It was running really cool as well - in the TV cabinet it started to sound like a 360, but it's back to being silent. The PS4 obviously evidently needs really good ventilation.

I took the rumble packs out of my controllers and they are so much lighter now.

Those trigger springs can be a right bitch, especially when you drop them on the carpet they're impossible to find!

Would be nice to see Sony release an Elite style controller.

I've said for years now that it's time a 3rd party made customisable super controllers that potentially would work with PS4 ,Xbox and PC. They would be expensive but something that would have the build quality and options of something you would want to keep and rely on for many years.

Yeah, the issue started for me when we bought a new Ikea unit after having it on a very open glass stand , it went so loud so i unplugged it and the wooden shelf it was on was proper hot, so I cut a small circle in the back of the unit for ventilation and raised it with those rubber feet and it dramatically improved the situation, and a disc hasn't spewed out since.

Has anyone on here got a PSTV? More specifically I'm interested in the PS4 streaming over local (wired) networks (ideally using homeplugs which might make a difference).

My PS4 is in my room, but quite regularly we have games nights, or my housemate will be out and I have use of the projector in the lounge. It's a pain moving it between rooms each time, so if the PSTV does streaming well, I'm tempted to pick one up.

Impressions appreciated.

EDIT: also, does it support 4 Dualshock 4's as it would mainly be for multiplayer nights (couch co-op style games)

It's exactly the same streaming as on PSVita - so 700p/60fps. All works fine in my experience. Yes, the PSTV supports Dualshock 4's.
