PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Hmm don't think it's that much of a pisstake personally. Shmups are very niche and the fact that they still get made is just pure wonderment and awesome. Seems to be a perception that shmups shouldn't cost much which while it would be nice, seems a bit silly.

You dont think releasing Darius without any form of cross buy, onto ps4 for 50 odd quid is a piss take? They dont cost much to make compared to a lot of games, Chronicles is a budget shooter with simple graphics, super basic 3d. EDF 4.1 is a 3 year old game upscaled with the dlc chucked in, and a couple of extra novelty levels.  It came onto the store at 54.99 and is currently 49.99.

They're piss takes, trying to wring out the pockets of 1000 people buying them, instead of pricing fairly and allowing more people to get into them. Only the most insane hardcore EDF fan would pay 50 quid for 4.1, and that fan probably already has 2 copies of it.

I'm having some fun with Sony at the moment.

My Anniversary PS4 has got the auto-eject bug. Nothing is fixing it - rebuilding libraries, removing the middle rubber footing, standing it horizontally, tightening the disc release screw. Nothing. This is my second PS4, and the second one to have this issue. I know it's due to poor hardware design. Sony do too, because they replaced the digital buttons on the front of the machine with mechanical ones with the newer models.

Email Sony explaining the problem, saying it's the second machine I've had do this, that I am one month out of warranty but they are still going to fix it, and I am not going to pay them anything. Mention it's an Anniversary machine and can't be replaced. Receive email back to 'Mr' (hey, at least they got the gender right even if they couldn't remember the name I put on their contact form twice) that was basically on script, asking me to run through their online fault reporting system, pay £125 and that if it can't be fixed by them I'd get a replacement... despite me already saying I'm not paying, and that the machine can't just be replaced.

Email back politely confirming the above and that after spending over £600 on faulty hardware, I am not particularly willing to spend another £125 to make it so I have a working machine. Receive a reply with my name spelt wrong, and am asked to call their phone number (which is closed today as it turns out) to sort out a fix or a replacement

Feel like this is going to be a long, painful process.

Youre right, it will be, and i doubt theyll waive the fee. Ive still got a dead ps4 in a box in the loft. You have to look at ps4 gaming as a bit like a car - every so often its going to break down and cost you money, it goes with the territory of having one.

Heh, a bit like my old Golf then - lovely whilst it ran, but when it went wrong my wallet pretty much exploded.

I'm going to give it a go and see how I get on. I wonder how many Anniversary machines they've had back? Problem is, given that the issue is down to poor hardware design I don't really have much faith in it continuing to work fine even if they did manage to fix it. If this was my first PS4 to have this problem I'd be a little more forgiving, but having had two now with exactly the same problem I'm really not in much of a mood to then give Sony another chunk of cash.

Now, if they could somehow peel that lovely Anniversary shell off and slot it onto a new machine with mechanical buttons... then we might be talking :)

Dariusburst Chronicles is a bit boring really. Terrible stages and ok bosses. I was so disappointed.

Really? thats worrying. I played the psp version and quite liked it..not exactly gaiden, or even G, but still decent.

Mine has stopped ejecting for now, even though I haven't done anything to change it. What irks me about that $125 to fix it is that it only comes with a 90 day warranty. The only possible way I'd accept that is if I got a proper button version instead.

I gave it a chance. In the end I got a refund (Steam). Others seem to like it though, to be fair.

Yup, I have basically given Sony two options:

a) I will pay £125 on the basis that they take my machine, separate the Anniversary outer shell and my hard drive, replace the rest with the newer model with mechanical buttons and return it (not even sure if possible).

b) I will send my PS4 off to be dusted over and have thermal paste added here and there, but I won't be paying for it.

Will see what they come back with!

I had that eject bug, tried everything and it would be ok for a few months then buggered again. I lost my rag and took the whole thing to bits and made sure everything was secure when rebuilding, hasn't done it since - if it does it's going out the window though.

I had that happen on a few occasions, i stopped using the eject button altogether, i just go to eject disk in the option menu. Hasnt happened since i stopped using the button.

Toying with the idea of buying Japanese version of Dark Souls 3, is it possible to use my UK credit card on the Japanese PSN store?

I admire your determination to get Dark souls 3 asap but I doubt you can use your UK credit card, perhaps try prepaid card  revolut.com  (you can get £5 free when you topup £10 ... Use code MSE).

However I would be worried whether the Japanese version would have English text, the Japanese version of Demon's souls didn't as I recall (you had to buy the Asian version).

Just a thought.

No I was fully expecting it to be impenetrable (other than the spoken dialogue), and am convincing myself that going through it using google translate would be hilarious & awesome :D Thanks for the info, will check out the links.  Previous research has indicated I need to spend about 60-70 quid to get 45 quid's worth of Yen though :/  Bah. If I could've used my card I'd have done it.

Why would you get the Japanese version? I can understand a Japanese physical version because it has stuff with it. But, digital?

Because I'm the kind of obsessive dickhead who would get it just to play it three weeks before everyone else! :D

Have you looked into getting a Hong Kong account?

i used to use one on PS3 as it accepted my card ok. But it was quite a while ago, and I don't know if the Asian version comes out at the same time as the Japanese one.

Nah the Asian version is out the same as rest of the world.  Looking into that revolut now, not sure how it will help but will do some digging!

Edit - oh I get it! An internationally accepted mastercard debit card.  Worth a shot, for sure.

Yeah I still want to be able to play origani koriwa-isu 5 legend of kawaii princess as soon as it comes out.

No wait I like the touch of a woman and daily bathing.

*shrug* Your loss mate. Origani Koriwa-Isu 5: Legend of Kawaii Princess was Famitsu's GOTY 2015. And I heard that one of the reviewers is married and showers semi-regularly.

I almost feel like I'm stepping into the wrong topic here but the latest Dreams Twitch stream has completely seduced me*. So after ages of jamming and aching which console to go for it's the deal maker. Anyone know the best place to pick up a PS4?

*Its EXACTLY how I saw VR art coming together. Had a series of discussions with HTC about it and a few other things related to VR art apps which never came to anything. Really want to see what the Molecules do with it, Move and Orpheus.
