PlayStation 4 Console Thread

What's the opinion on PSTV for streaming PS4 games within the house? I'd be using power line adapters for it.

I have mine now, played a bit of Driveclub and it works really well. My powerline adaptors are really old too, if that makes any difference.

Since I replaced the HD, mine beeps non-silently every so often, although for all I know it might be silently beeping 24/7. The beep is very odd, I had no idea what was causing it for ages until I read a random forum post while searching for something else. I assumed it was something to do with Destiny, like the way that all the sound drops out every so often, but I think that was just because I was playing Destiny continuously back then.

The noise sounds like it's coming from the PS4 itself, which is a bit baffling. Why would a hard drive be capable of beeping?

I've never thought about it until now, but you're right - it does occasionally beep, quieter but not unlike the beep on power up. Unfortunately, I upgraded the drive very early on so I don't recall what it was like without. If it helps, the 500gb drive, now used variously around the house, never beeps!

Are your PL adaptors directly into a wall socket or through an extension lead, as mine was incredibly blocky so went directly into the wall at the PSTV end (the router end is still into a power cube thing) and it's now pretty much perfect?

Yeah. I don't know what people think extension cables are, other than sockets that are not in the walls.

Surge protection can affect them, as can a million of Ac/dc transformers plugged in to the lines.

One thing I did to maximise my speed: I plugged surge protector extensions in everywhere I was using transformer plugs and made sure all the transformers are plugged into the surge protected extensions.

I'm stuck on a webex so can't check, but the orange standby light on the PS4 has gone out. Haven't powered it up for a few days. Does it properly turn off if you haven't used it for a while?

Also, didn't notice that PS+ had expired almost a month ago, but I've been doing Driveclub time trials since. Is PS+ only needed for live multiplayer?

My PS4 does not beep. It's a stock launch model.

I reckon the beeping will speed up and eventually your PS4 will explode. You should measure if the beeps are getting closer together

I read about this on Eurogamer. The beeps will gradually get closer and more regular, and eventually the PS4 will give birth to a litter of bouncing baby Vitas.

(It is now in the official Sony employee guidelines that a group of Vitas is to be referred to as 'litter'.)

I've had my PS4 on standby for days. Went to try the Driveclub update last night, still hadn't downloaded. I guess I'll forgive it that one, it may have been released after 3am local time here. However, a Destiny update? According to the patch notes, last update was on the 8th. Why hadn't that downloaded?

Yes, it's set to have internet while in standby mode.

Downloaded fine here, also been in standby for days. Maybe it lost connection with your router?

I don't actually remember the last time I put the Destiny disc in. I manually updated when the recent big DLC came out. Just figured it would be there if I bothered with it again. I play DC every week.

Note, both these updates kicked off immediately after I powered up proper and logged in. They just didn't do it while sat in rest mode for days, although DC probably came just after my console would have checked.

Mine seems to have abandoned downloading updates in standby too - Destiny update only came down for me when I booted the machine on Wednesday night (to play Until Dawn which decided it wanted a 10gb download before it would install).

Curiously enough I never had this problem with the PS3 with the automatic update thing

Is it connected wireless or hard-wired. I've got mine set to wifi and it always disconnects in sleep mode no matter the setting.

With the PS3, it used to switch itself on at an allotted time to do updates and stuff.

I'm looking for a good single-player FPS on PS4. What would people recommend? I see the Battlefield games are on PSN sale, what are their campaigns like? I've also seen CoD Ghosts cheap.

I hear good things about both the Wolfenstein and Metro: Redux single player experience but I haven't played either (both on my list though).

In my opinion things like the new CODs and BF are so focused on the multiplayer element, the single player stuff is normally a bit of an afterthought.
