PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Having explained everything I've done, this was their advice:

Carolina: What I would recommend you to do is to shut down your console, then unplug it from the outlet for a few seconds,, then plug it back and then press and release the eject button 10 times, and then press and hold the console's power button till you hear 2 beeps, after that connect your controller with your USB cable and press the PS button.

Once you are in safe mode menu, perform a rebuild database. This can certainly improve your console's performance.

Did that, played a few minutes of DC, seems OK. Hardly conclusive. Anyway, they've booked me in for a repair if this doesn't work, but they want $149 + tax to repair it. I bought it just over 2 years ago, and it only has 12 months warranty here. Also, that repaired version only has a 90 day warranty.

Yeah, not going to happen. That'll be me down to my XB1 if it happens again.

So, keeping with the modding theme, I took one of my controllers apart tonight to replace the rotten thumbstick. All going well, following a nice video on youtube, until the bit where you need to disconnect the long ribbon table. Rather than just pull the cable out, I pulled the little connector off as well. Is there any way in hell I can get that back on? It's essentially two rows of about 10 pins, really tightly packed, and all moving as soon as I get anywhere near them.

If I don't reconnect it I know I'll lose the light, which I'm not fussed about, but will I also lose any chance of synching the controller with a console via the usb port? And if so, is there any other way to sync it? I'm not fussed about charging, as I use an official dock for that, but I do take my controllers to mates houses with me, and need to be able to sync them up.

One of the most enjoyable parts about having a PS4 imo is the sense of dominance over the Xbox.

If sony were alone they would be even more unbearably bad at customer service than they are now, healthy competition is a good thing. I cant speak for everyone but the early TV TV TV and DRM missteps are long behind us now, anyone who likes games and has the cash should have both.

My PS4 does this thing where when i start it up from Rest Mode the picture isn't stable, as if there is loose connection, just flickers on and off. If i then turn it off then again it's fine, or start from Off Mode it's fine. HAs anyone else had this?

It is into a 4 in 2 out HDMI splitter, wonder if that could be the culprit? Every other console into it is fine though, and i swapped The One and PS4 over and still the same.

I read ages ago that some splitters don't like the ps4 rest mode, similar to how some don't like sky boxes given they're "always on".

Does the splitter have autoswitch?

Oh, that could be it. It's not autoswitching, has a remote and buttons on the front. As long as my PS4 isn't faulty is a good thing.

Do you have the Amazon special autoswitch?

I have that one and don't have any issue with PS4, Xbone & Wii U that are all hooked up to it.

Thinking about it mine is an auto switcher with buttons and no remote - could be a cheap fix to get the amazon one!

I use this HDMI switch from Amazon (was £6.99 when I bought it), and it auto-switches between my PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. It doesn't require a power supply, and has a switch in case it doesn't auto-switch itself or if you have two devices on and want to flip between them. Really impressed with it.

I have what looks to be the same product but a different brand name, no problems here either

Yup, this is the one I've got, though mine is the 5 switcher which does require its own power and has a really bright blue led light on at all times. Does come with a remote for switching mind which is all kinds of handy.

Shimmy mine is an Atlona one. Is the Amazon one powered?

Not powered, I have the same one as retroed linked to, I thought it would be crap but it is spot on and has never let me down - I actually sold my very expensive Octava switcher as the only thing it did better was have a remote and work well with always on things like Apple tv.

The amazon cheapie is perfect for consoles even when in standby etc :)

I've had to go and buy a mains powered charger stand thing for my dualshocks. It seems that after the latest update, the PS4 no longer outputs enough power through the the USB to charge the pads properly, either that or the cable I was using is knackered. Is anyone else having charging issues?

Loads of issues from day one, seems related to the leads - some would power but not charge and some not do anything.

I got the official charger thing and its been great, just dock them after a session and never had one run out on me since having it!

I use the lead that came with the PS4, and I've had no problems charging whilst in Standby.

Can't remember where I put mine, so when I was doing the database rebuild yesterday, I grabbed the USB lead that came with the XB1. That worked fine just too.

I left my second pad charging for a few hours on standby the other day, but the battery was dead when I came to use it. I just assumed I'd not plugged it in properly, but now I'm not so sure.
