PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I don't have that "wireless" charger anymore but I think that what Alex suggested could feasibly be the problem. It doesn't make sense that I should go through so many leads so quickly and each time it's the same issue, the leads connector pin gets bent downwards at an angle so it won't sit flush in the controller socket and charge the pad properly.

That's a possibility, yes. Good point. I have just been using standard microUSB cables so far and it could be that the socket is misaligned and is causing the lead's connector to bend out of shape. I was thinking of picking up a second controller so I could try and compare it.

You know exactly what I mean - the charging process is wireless. Thanks for your valid contribution.

It. Still. Plugs. In.

Is a dock connector really a "wire" though?

I don't know but it's good to know that there are helpful people like yourself willing to offer advice and possible solutions rather than trying to sidetrack the discussion with pointless pedantry.

The PS4 controller build and material quality is a total joke. Have you tried bending the offending pins back into shape? Applies to both the controller and cable ends.

Yes, I did try that on one of the leads and it helped for a little while but seemed to get bent out of shape pretty quickly again. I think it makes sense for me to go back to another charging cradle rather than risk having to keep replacing leads. Also, it's cheaper than another controller unless I can find one in a sale somewhere.

You can get a magentic cable which has a standard detached usb connector that has a magnetic strip that you attach the charging wire to. A kind of adapter to turn any USB charged equpiment into a faux Magsafe affair.. bit of a gimmick, but might be good in your case as you would only ever have to jam the adapter into the usb slot once.

That sounds like a pretty cool solution actually. Will have a google. Thanks :)

Cool, glad to help. It's this kind of thing (not endorsing this particular one, just as an example of what I mean)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-4A-Micro-USB-Charging-Cable-Magnetic-Adapter-Charger-for-Android-Samsung-LG-/272072762814?var=&hash=item3f58cce5be:m:mB17nbMNh3nLgU3QwQzfNjQ

Great, thanks for the link. Pretty cheap solution judging by that example. :)

A mate of mine has one of those magnetic thingies in a dock and game storage 'shelf' (which to me sounded like those weird peripherals you'd get made by galoob and the like for your NES etc , which were allegedly made for tidying away the living room console but ended up needing a lot more faff t oput everything away than just lobbing it in a cupboard or putting it in a box) BUT he says the charging thing works a charm. :)

Quick question, other than the games that PS+ gives you each month and online play is there any other benefit of a PS+ sub?

Mine ran out in December and I did plan on renewing but haven't gotten round to it yet, then I was thinking what do i need it for, I don't play online and thinking back on all the games that its given me "free" and I've hardly touched more than about 5 of them properly.

Is there something Im forgetting here that means I should renew?

Crap. Evidently, twiddling the screw, powering off for 10 minutes, and trying to pry the rubber stand away from the eject button didn't cure my ejecting disc issue, which decided the best time to spit out a disc would be in the middle of a Driveclub lap for the rllmuk online league.

I powered it down to get the eject mechanism to reset, and noticed merely touching the rubber pad underneath would cause the eject mechanism to start double beeping, as it does when you try to eject and there's no disc. This seems like a really naff design. Also don't know what triggers it - my kids played Marvel Lego for ages on the weekend and nowt, but 10 minutes of DC tripped it this time. I'm tempted to hack that rubber pad right away from the button, but I'd better go moan to Sony support first. Don't want them thinking I've damaged it, if they'll take it back.

It's heat that causes it I read somewhere - DC will generate far more of that than a Lego game. Apparently the escaping heat makes it think you're touching the button so the disc ejects although now I've said that I'm sure there were reports of people coming home to find discs hanging out their consoles.
