PlayStation 4 Console Thread

To be honest I'm talking about any BC on a Sony machine.

If you've bought digitally then there's no disc drm to worry about so I don't think we can use that as an excuse for Sony to charge again.

I know companies used to charge for this stuff but that's changed now and I really think it would open up the market for them if consumers could buy older games or redeem their digital purchases at least (if the emulation is in place)

Oh yeah, there's no sense in releasing something else called a PS2 classic that's a downloadable game that you have to buy all over again. Not at those prices anyway. I don't mind as much with indie game remasters of £3 titles on a new format.

GTA I can understand being expensive if they've had to renew the synch rights for the soundtracks. That's if they've done that.

I still haven't forgiven Rockstar for patching my digital copy of San Andreas to REMOVE songs.

On the upside I'm guessing some of these remasters will end up being on Playstation Plus which is a nice bonus.

I'm not excusing Sony anything - I agree that existing digital purchases should carry over and I'd like to see discs working if it is technically feasible (see my posts on earlier pages).

I was just pointing out that we don't know enough about the technical capability of the machine to read PS2 DRM from discs for anyone to assert that Sony just needs to update the firmware to do so, but won't.

I'm surprised we haven't heard about PS1 games on the PS4 yet. I'd like to play Symphony of the Night on a big screen and already own it on my US PSN account to play on the Vita. Even if they dobn't add PS1 support I hope Microsoft will add it to the list of 360 BC titles and I can play it on the Xbox One instead.

Well, let's all play amateur system designer. The ability to physically read a DVD disc doesn't assume also the ability to read the file format.

Go away and try again. If you can "read" the disk, and you have the file format specification written down somewhere, OF COURSE you can read the file format.

Also, digital PS2 Classics.

I don't know why people are harping on about specific hardware needed to read the file format of the PS2 discs, any PS3 can read the file structure fine without any hardware. You can use your PS2 SingStar discs in the SingStar app, and it pulls the files from the disc. PCSX2 can also read PS2 games from the disc.

Interesting point.

The answer seems to be "ignore it in software or always return a good response when queried".

So maybe there isn't a technical limitation.

Yeah, not sure "file format" was the right way to describe it. Anyway, turns out, yeah, there is something on the disc it probably can't read, despite "it's all just DVDs".

Go away and quit your point scoring.

Yeah, perhaps it's all bullshit, but Sony need to establish you own the game, as in read the DRM. PCSX2, surprisingly, doesn't honour the DRM. Maybe SingStar doesn't care either, you paid for the PS3 version already. Have you tried it with a copied PS2 SingStar disc?

Haven't tried it myself with a burned PS2 disc, but after a quick google it appears burned discs don't work.

I wish MattyP would fuck off out of this and other Sony threads. He's clearly not happy with his Xbox/PC combo as he spends most of his time talking about the PS4.

Whatever. I own Sony hardware and enjoyed a lot of Sony games and I'm interested in gaming in general. I've also owned a PS4 for a while. It would be great if the PS4 could play my back catalogue of PS2 games with software optimised by Sony for the PS4. Hence my posts here on the subject.

You don't need to own hardware to qualify to post on stuff you are interested in? Anyway just don't read my posts if you find them that offensive jeez. Cheer up you bitter gamer and take a chill pill.

LMAO neg away.... If it makes you feel happier all the better!!! ???? ????

I don't think anything would tempt you back at this point, just having read your posts on the subject for some time.

Let's not kid ourselves you'd switch from emulation on PC to buying a PS4 for the same thing.

No but the next Gran Turismo and Uncharted might as would the next game by Team Ico. My experience of owning a PS4 wasn't a negative one just lacked the games I wanted to play after the two I bought it for didn't quite turn out as expected.

Just thought I'd sell it (PS4) on early on rather than keep it and not use it that much. Let's face it they are only ever going to get cheaper. Looking forward to potentially picking another up at some point to play the exclusives I miss.

I have had a fantastic gaming experience on both the PS2 and PS3 and I'm sure the PS4 will have things I want to play on it again at some point. As I mentioned the consoles only ever get cheaper so I expect I'll get a great pack at some point with a Gran Turismo in and Uncharted 4. So happy waiting at the moment.

Also personally don't like having all the hardware stuck under the TV at once but want to play all the games :D Just feel a bit gluttonous having all three consoles rather just focus on a couple at a time. At the moment WiiU and Xbox One have the exclusives I want to play. At least it cuts down the choices I have to make when I get some time to game a bit too

UNCHARTED.

Ok corrected if it makes you happier... Level of pedentry on here is amusing at times... Why are people so damn grumpy and nit picky? I was going to shorten it to UC4 but technically that's incorrect too as Uncharted is one word. Anyway blame a bit of autocorrect going on here too... ????

Anyhow Uncharted :) Yay no meddling from autocorrect. Going to be a great game. Looking forward to trying to get access to a PS4 to play it...

Sorry forgot to add as always feel free to neg if it makes you feel happier!!! ????

See threads can be fun no? Anyway it's OK I'll stay clear of this thread for now. Which I'm sure most will appreciate anyway. Too much negativity and grumpy arses around here.

Life is too short really isn't it. Enjoy the games all \m/ peace.

Anyway, I bought Vice City because I am part of the problem I guess. I don't see me buying many PS2 games at that price, but I was interested enough to have a look at one.

I can report it runs very well indeed, the up-res works well (text is smoothed too). Trophy integration is very clever.

So yeah, pricing is bad but the games seem sound.

Is it 50hz or 60hz assuming you bought the UK release?

Given I have bought Vice city a silly amount of times whats one more ehh...

I’m really tempted by Mark of Kri, but given that I can’t remember anything about it other than extreme violence, a bird, and a vague sense of it being really good, I’m reluctant to shell out £13. I can’t imagine there’ll be a huge amount of takeup at that price. The Vita releases of old PS1 and PSP games ranged between £3.99 and £7.99, and that’s much more in the “fuck it, why not?” space.

Plus, the actual implementation feels pretty stingy. There must be any number of compelling technical and financial reasons as to why you can’t just stick your old PS2 disks in the slot and download a copy, retaining the original disk as copy protection (i.e. the way the Xbox One does it), but it still feels like an archaic and anti-consumer way of going about things.

Yeah, I bought the UK release. Frankly I have no idea whether it is 50 or 60Hz, but it runs fine. My TV doesn't switch modes or anything.
