Got given a $50 gift card yesterday so hit the US PSN sale.

Wolfenstein TNO
Wolfenstein Old Blood
Witcher 3
The Order 1886
Titan Souls

$52 and so many cents in total. Not bad at all.

Although I really need to get a new HDD

I've been using Twisted's remote play app for Windows and so far it's pretty impressive for an alpha version, even if it does cost £6.50. I've not got my dualshock 4 attached to the PC yet so just using a mapped 360 controller. The only issue I've found is that occasionally it'll lose synchronization between the sound and video, I can hear the button presses being registered but the video lags way behind. When it works it's almost flawless (using all wired connections) but hopefully he will fix this bug as he seems to be constantly working on it and responding to feedback. I know Sony have announced an official Windows and Mac remote play app but who knows how long we'll be waiting for that and what kind of customization options it will offer.

I did try using an Android emulator to run the official remote play app from Xperia phones but couldn't get it to register my PS4 at all. On my Nexus 7 tablet it works fine, even lets you pair a dualshock but the crap wireless in my Nexus 7 means the connection is quite fragile.

Using homeplugs with mine now.. seem to be getting a much improved 35-40Mbps down and 6Mbps up (which is a good 10x what it seemed to struggle along on over wifi..)

Still says it's too slow for Share Play though.. what sort of speed do you need for that?

Wouldn't think it would need much processing power at all, as long as it's capable of playing HD video I think it should be okay. As cool as that unofficial app looks, I think I'll hold off on paying for it and wait for the recently announced official Sony app.

I've only ever used Share Play once to try PES with a mate months ago and that was when my PS4 was connected via wifi and upstairs while the Sky router is downstairs so probably much slower that you're wired connection (I've about 40Mbps down and 10Mbps up wired). Could they have they increased the minimum speeds in a firmware update?

How much grunt does streaming need? Will one of those windows 10 PCs on a stick do it? That would turn any TV into a streaming solution for both consoles, then.

It works perfectly on my Nexus 7 if it's right beside the console but that might be some hardware decoding going on. I wouldn't think it should need much since it's only really decoding video, I'd say if you can play 1080p youtube videos then it would be fine but then I don't know what codec the PS4 uses. That's something my old Samsung netbook can't do, even 720p videos it struggles with. I'll have to give the remote app a go on it to see what happens, you can decrease the video quality down to about 340p or so.

I would suggest that the problems is on the other end rather than yours. I have done share play over Wifi with a 20MB connection (so in real life, probably about 6Mbps) before now.

So, if, theoretically, I was looking to buy a PS4 while the sales are still on today, what's the best option? Amazon and a few other places have the 500GB for £250, or with Star Wars Battlefront for £290. Is there a better bargain anywhere else?

You should be able to get 500gb and a game (or a 1TB console) for £250, or a 500gb and a bundle of 3 titles for £290.

Should I get new thumbsticks (tricky to fit, I've heard), or just some new cap things? Controllers are well beyond warranty date, and have only just started crumbling.

Any recommendations for the caps/sticks to get?

Xbone sticks, better than the originals and properly made - they really are not that hard to fit, slightly fiddly is about as bad as it gets!

I've noticed PSPlus has decided to streamline my esperience by only allowing me to grab PS4 games through the PS4 and not Vita games like it previously did. I'm also going to hazard a guess, I'm betting if I buy a Vita in the near future (as I was planning too) none of the Vita games I've grabbed over the past year will be available to download on it.

In the same period that my creaky old 360 allows me to nab XBone games from Games with Gold for use if I get a Bone.

Great work again Sony.

Grab them through the website? I've noticed that some months I've been able to grab games for the other consoles through the PS4/PS3 store, while other months I couldn't. They'll definitely be there for you in the future if you 'buy' them through the site, though.

I'll be setting the PS4 up as soon as possible after it arrives. One newbie question though (for now, I'm sure there will be more) - the PS+ account is mine, so if I set it up with my lad as the default user and me as another user (linked to my PS+ account) would he be able to play online or access my PS+ freebie games? Or does he need his own PS+ account? On the PS3 all the users can play my free games, but obviously on that they don't need PS+ to go online.

In other words, can any user on the PS4 go online & play the free games so long as one user (not the main/default user) has an active PS+ account?
