PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Is the PS4 in the Uncharted Collection bundle going to be the revised model?

I've seen box artwork showing it as a new model (has the new model number on the box). Think it was either on John Lewis or Amazon... when you zoomed it you could clearly see CUH-1200 series ref number.

The Asian PS+ games have been announced. They get Super Meat Boy, which we got last month, so there are obviously differences in regions, but some of these might crossover. Another full-price retail game for PS4 if that's the case:

  • Super Meat Boy (PS4/Vita)
  • Thief (PS3/PS4)
  • Mass Effect 2 (PS3)
  • Sumioni (Vita)
  • CatsBlock Vestival (Vita)

I wonder if they'll give us Driveclub? They've just released the Bikes add-on and dropped the price of the season pass. Would also make more sense that they got rid of the PS+ version last month.

And we've already had Thief on PS3 this year, would be a bit of a shitty move to give us exactly the same game on a different platform, no?

Yes it is - I've got one. Apparently, as well as the matte finish, it's quieter but hotter to run.

Mine is a lot quieter, I strain to hear it now. As for temperature they're supposed to run cooler and use less power. I'm just happy it works and doesn't constantly want to eject discs.

Sony saying they don't think they'll be able to implement PSN name changes. I wonder if it's because it's the username or unique id. Doing some identity management stuff at work myself, I can see why they'd potentially have issues if they hadn't planned ahead.

It's because the PSN back-end is very evidently spaghetti code and is currently held together with lollipop sticks and twine.

Given the trajectory of PSN uptake from the popularity of PS4, and the fact that Sony are now flush as a result, I'm willing to bet that they are going to re-write PSN from scratch, in order to make it halfway manageable, scalable and secure. Trying to maintain and add features to what is obviously a mess of a system has been hurting them for a while now.

If I were in charge of Playstation division at least, that would be #1 on my to-do list.

At some point managing the current mess will be just as much work as re-implementing it. Just mark my words. At some point in the not-so-near future, the PSN will go down for maintenance, and afterwards become magically faster, more consistent and stable, and will host a raft of new features previously deemed to have been impossible to accomplish.

Given that Season 2 lets you import your decisions from Season 1*, it's a somewhat back-to-front way of doing it though. Has season one been on PS+ before?

* It's not mandatory though, you can just let it randomly set them if you've not played it before.

EDIT: Now confirmed:

Maybe it's because the Bone got Season One this month and they wanted to differentiate slightly.

Anyway, any word on the Vita and Ps3 offerings?

Here’s what you can get your hands on come 3rd November:
The Walking Dead Season 2 (PS4)
Magicka 2 (PS4)
Dragon Fin Soup (PS4, PS Vita, PS3)
Mass Effect 2 (PS3)
Beyond Good and Evil (PS3)
inviZimals (PS Vita)
