PlayStation 4 Console Thread

The best way I have found to keep the pads topped up is by plugging them into the machine after playing, with the console on standby and set to only power the USB ports for the first few hours.

"how do I set standby?"

I bought the 20th anniversary pad and the battery life seems better, I played for four hours straight and didn't lose a bar of battery, the next night was another two hours and then one bar went down. Have the said anything about improved battery life? As my other three pads lose battery after about five hours total use.

These are the Rules:

Plugged into one socket, which does not get turned off at the wall:

TV

Sky box

Onkyo

Wii

Wii U

Plugged into other socket, which gets turned off when not in use:

PS3

PS4

360

Raspberry Pi

Gigabit switch

You can't fuck with the Rules, otherwise your house burns down.

I'm amused at the logic of keeping the bleedin' Wii and TV on standby at all times, considering they don't even do anything in standby bar waste your electricity. Your rules are silly.

Silly or not. RULES.

It's more because they're in the TV unit and everything in the TV unit is on one inaccessible socket strip. So to turn the Wii off, I'd also have to turn the TV and amp off. And the Wii U does downloads and the Sky box records, so they have a reason to be on.

The other consoles are Elsewhere in the room and I can turn them all off at once.

I will admit that in my Baudband days I did leave the other consoles overnight sometimes, downloading, but I genuinely didn't sleep well knowing they were on and would come down in the middle of the night to check they weren't smouldering.

You see how nice and tidy that is? keeps the mrs happy, doesn't knacker the pitifully weak usb port on the top of the controller, you keep all your console free from shite looking usb leads, you take one off to play, when it dies, you put it back and grab the other one , you never run out of charge ever , it's heavy and feels like a premium product apple would charge you £50 for, it makes a satisfying click lock sound when you dock it and you get a mild lightshow when they are charging. It's absolutely essential IMO

This may not help, but...

What if the Wii, Wii U, Sky box or TV explode while you're asleep?

Don't be ridiculous.

Does it have a plug or a USB cable for power?

Onkyo

That's the one thing which should be unplugged. Amps draw a lot of power, they're full of capacitors. Them things go boom-boom when they fail.

My Onkyo was the only bit of kit that has ever failed, luckily I was at home when it happened.

It gets turned off, not unplugged.

One unequivocal advantage this has is the speed of start up - no more than 15-20 seconds. The Bone is far far slower.

From instant on? Mine is on and booted into TV mode (yeah, I know. The Mrs loves TV) in... Well, I don't really know as I haven't timed it, but certainly no more than 20 seconds.
