PlayStation 4 Console Thread

@ MWJimmy - That's a good point well expressed but the industry cannot survive on Everybody's Gone TT Rapture or what are largely unappealingly looking retro based titles that ultimately sell in small numbers being used to appease an audience that expects better and bigger.

Are we just going to ignore the elephant in the room that is the lifeblood of the industry I.E. Third party multiformat games.

On top of that the PS4 is gaining much more third party support from Japan too.

Spending budgets on securing marketing deals and weak extra content for third party games is preferential to making your brand stronger with solid classic first party titles delivered on time and to universal acclaim is a good thing now ?

If sales figures are anything to go by, yes.

If you want a console full of critically acclaimed first party exclusives, with the most recognised branding on the planet then look no further than the Wii U. Without third party support though it has failed.

FIFA, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, Destiny, Call of Duty - that's what shifts consoles.

Sometimes I worry about the way I behave on the forum, when people get tired of my merry grumping about certain games, that I may be getting my enthusiasm/cynicism balance wrong.

But then Boozy goes off on one and I feel infinitely better about myself. Thanks, Boozy :)

I'm hardly Sony's biggest fan, and even I bought a PS4 over an Xbone, despite how much I enjoyed my 360.

And you know what? It doesn't actually matter. I've got to play some lovely games on it. Maybe if I'd got an Xbone I'd have played some there instead. Or maybe if have bought neither and just carried on enjoying my 360 for a bit longer. Or actually played some of the Wii U games I've not yet played.

I just like playing games. And I'm too old and tired for playground console spats.

Especially when we all know it's fucking PC owners that are the true enemy ;)

Why do you care about sales figures over receiving excellent first party support that uses the technology in the box to it's best, made by the best games designers in the business, bringing innovation and new experiences that define next gen gaming ? Why can't you have both ? You should have both but instead you are getting an 8 hour interactive movie by a small studio, largely ignored by it's publisher in favour of 3rd party exclusive content in weak sequels lacking innovation along with a polished yet badly aged remaster of a game series that fails to live up to the praise heaped on it by it's insanely defensive fanbase.

I have ALL THE MACHINES and I pretty much agree with DeKay. They don't get equal use - PS4's in the lead, usually due to niche titles like Samurai/Dynasty Warriors / Orochi games, Onechanbara Z2 and the occasional showstopper like Bloodborne, Wii U's been getting a lot of use recently with Devil's Third's online (flawed, yes, addictive as all hell, absolutely - Siege mode is brilliant) and some lingering Mario Kart 8 play, and the One's in last place with occasional Titanfall/KI use - though when Halo 5 drops I've no doubt I'll be playing a lot of that.

Keen eyed readers will no doubt spot some games up there with an unsavory reputation, and that's fine - I'd rather have niche games that appeal to me rather than manufactured AAA super releases that don't. Not that AAA is unwelcome, of course, but it's the Binary Domains that keep my love for gaming intact and not the Uncharteds. Which are fine too. Strokes, folks, horses, courses.

Man, Boozy's not always like this is he? I'm a bit of a stranger to this thread, but he's coming across more as attention-kidnapping than attention seeking.

#1: 'Your machine is shit. It's shit! Absolute shit!'

#2: 'No it isn't. I like it.'

#1: 'Stop being so defensive! CHRIST, there's no talking to you, is there?'

Ok, let's pretend you're being serious. Can you provide examples of Microsoft "bringing innovation and new experiences that define next gen gaming"*? Who are the best game designers in the business? I think most people would include From Software and Naughty Dog in that list.

*Presumably you don't mean the cloud, which hasn't done anything of note yet and won't until Crackdown 3 in 2016 (and even then it's debatable).

Boozy has been like this ever since the PS4 was announced.

The impression I get is that Xbox One owners are like PS3 early adopters or Gamecube enthusiasts or people who can't let the Saturn and Dreamcast go. A siege mentality with a mutual camaraderie, faith unwavering while everyone else just wants to play games.

Is PSN being really shit these days?

For the past week I've had trouble connecting the PSN store on ps4 and accessing friends lists etc. I don't understand it because I did a network test (on the PS4) and everything is fine. Every other device is fine too.

Sometimes it works but it's really really slow (like slower than dial up slow - it can take 5+ minutes for pictures to appear on the store). I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Edit: all I needed to do was restart it. For some reason my machine doesn't like reconnecting after being in standby.

Steady now, don't wake the beast; some of us remember the dark days before the PS4, when it was PC owners that bore the brunt of Boozy's ire. The Steam thread becoming the hub for all PC games talk is largely because of Boozy, as it's the one place he tends to leave people alone. No such luck with the PS4 thread, alas.

Man, Boozy's not always like this is he?

Only if you're using/talking about the wrong platform (i.e. whichever platform Boozy isn't currently supporting).

You'll take my Dreamcasts from my cold, dead hands

I'll humour you with a reply Boozy cos I like you.

I don't care about sales figures particularly. But for a console to do well it needs support. So I'm glad PS4 continues to sell and be well supported.

So far I've enjoyed a mixture of third and first party support. Specifically this year Bloodborne, Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, Axiom Verge, GalakZ, SOMA, MGS V, Witcher III and Rocket League. Many of those aren't available on Xbox One and they've all been well received. So make of that what you will. You'll probably still think I'm a Sony drone but I can live with that.

I'll be honest with you though, apart from Halo 5 which is out soon there's nothing I'm interested in on Xbox One.

So Bloodborne, 2 multi plats and 5 PC indie games. It's like your agreeing with me but can't admit it to yourself.
