I could use a new theme, if nobody's taken it already. I'm using the Mad Max one at the moment, and it's a bit pish.

Edit: I redeemed it, thank you. It was the Tales of Utopia theme. No idea what it's like until I get home and try it out.

Double Edit: Oh yeah, happy birthday. Congratulations on being a bit older.

Anyone had this happen to them? When I switch users, the machine refuses to read disks, until I fully power it down and then turn it back on. It's then fine for swapping games until I swap users again, then it does it again...

See also: ejecting or putting in a disc from the machine being in standby. It's fine if it's on, but if you just hit eject or put a disc in the drive when I'm standby it won't work.

I was getting some weird messages about not being able to sign in to PSN and then within Bloodborne even though I seemed to be signed in the whole time. Then it started sending invites to the wrong people in my friends list which was slightly embarrassing

MGS has had me super tempted to pick up a PS4 for a while. This morning I've seen an offer through Savygamer - PS4 w/1TB, MGS5 and new FIFA for £308 delivered, from Amazon France. I'm presuming this is the updated hardware.

All I need is a UK power cable, yeah? And am I right in thinking I can just use the one from my 60gb PS3?

I've seen that deal, looks a good deal.

It is stated that it is C chassis so yes it is the updated hardware.

You need a figure 8 lead, I believe the 60gb PS3 uses a kettle type lead (I don't know the correct terms) ... the figure 8 leads are cheap and quite common.

Obviously the games will have French covers which might (read will) affect trade-in values but on the face of it this is a very good deal, note that a price cut has been announced so other deals may pop up.

You can, yes - or indeed from a Dreamcast, PS2 or any other machine that uses the generic two-prong power cable (mine is a French PS4, and that's exactly what I've done).

Edit: unless the original PS3 used a kettle lead, as suggested above; my PS3 was the second form of PS3 (the earlier 'slim' version), which I'd assumed used the same lead as the first.

Clocked it in under 7 hours. Looks pretty. Has some amazing design decisions such as:

If you are VERY close to death you can revive yourself drinking a potion called 'blackwater'. You can drink this behind cover and it restores you to a point where you need to recover (i.e.: the screen is still red and you're close to death). After drinking the blackwater you automatically stand up. Whilst people are shooting you. So you die.

You cannot throw grenades from behind cover. Throwing a grenade is a 3 second process so you'll get shot to shit whilst doing it. And die.

You'll often get a button prompt if a grenade lands near you to dive out the way. However - and this took me a few times to notice - you only ever dive backwards so if the grenade lands BEHIND you, it will make you dive on the grenade. So you die.

The sniper rifle is a one shot kill weapon so if a bad guys hand is not behind cover you can actually kill him by shooting his thumb off.

There must have been a lot of stuff cut from the game because the plot doesn't really explain anything about the werewolves. Vampires appear at one point with no explanation either. You never fight them, just burn them inside crates. Spoiler: You set fire to a warehouse full of vampires without checking if you can open the door out first (it turns out to be locked)

Loads of waist high obstacles you can't jump over.

STEALTH SECTIONS! Normally you're a bullet sponge but in stealth you have to sneak up behind them and wait for a button prompt to kill them. If the button prompt doesn't appear then they can shoot you dead straight away because your normal melee attack won't work.

Sometimes you have to walk and can't run in order to make the game last longer.

You have to examine objects for no reason. If you don't turn them around enough in your hand then you can't progress.

Looks pretty! Really dark in places so you can't see what's going on and you die.

4/10

I don't think I've ever played a game where there's such a gaping chasm between the technical aspects, and every single other aspect. The idea of an interactive film you play through as a third person shooter doesn't bother me so much as the fact that it's the worst film ever. It's like they took a teenager's idea for a film where King Arthur's steampunk knights fight werewolves and vampires and poor people, and didn't let any adults rewrite it or remove any of the insane avalanche of different stupid ideas.

It's a real shame, because the graphics are the best I've ever seen. It looks fucking incredible, the loading times are almost non-existent, and the frame rate is totally solid. I just can't get over how unbelievably awful the story and cutscenes and the actual game bit are - it's like their model for the story was weird steampunk / Twilight slash fiction they'd found on the internet, and their model for the game was those bits in Gears of War where the main character walks around very slowly with his finger in his ear.

Games writing is a mixture of "the guy in charge of the project has written this story and though none of us understand it we can't be bothered finding someone else" and "hey, it's a month before we hire the voice actors, better get someone in to take all of the awesome stuff we've put in and try to form a coherent reason for them".

Are there any significant differences between the different PS4 models? The new Uncharted bundle they've announced for October has the latest model, but I'm not that fussed about the game. However, the Destiny bundle over at Amazon (not with the Destiny version of the console) is about £10 cheaper and it's a game that I would very much like to play, though it's the older PS4 model.
