I've switched it off and left it all night. It's normally on standby. I want to get something to clean out the vents too. What kind of screwdriver do I need if I want to open the case?

That is worrying mid game, check your power settings on the PS4 to make sure there are no odd options selected.

If only there was some way of easily discovering your preferred power options.

I've just noticed the PS4 makes a faint pulsing sound while switched off and connected to the mains (not in standby). Is this normal?

My PS4 doesn't make any noise I'm aware of whilst in standby or rest mode. How old is your machine?

I've always been able to hear the very faint hum of the hard drive idling when in standby, I certainly wouldn't describe that as a pulse though. It's silent when turned off.

I mean really faint. I only noticed because I turned it on from the console and the room was silent.

I wouldn't worry about it then if you can only hear it right up close. The machine is on even when you choose power off mode - it's still receiving a current.

If it's generally at acceptable noise levels and performs normally it's fine.

PS4 just shut itself down during the middle of a Metal Gear mission.

A message popped up on screen saying "preparing to shutdown", it switched off - then when I rebooted it it went into safe mode with an error message that I hadn't shut it down properly. I hope it's not fucked.

Has anyone tried remote play via a Sony Tablet? Need to update my iPad as it's pretty old now, but would be tempted to switch to a Sony Z4 if remote play works well. I have a Vita and sometimes remote play but it would be much nicer to be able to use a controller.

Mine is like this. When it's switched off fully - but still connected to the mains - the power supply inside makes a pulsing warbling sound. I assume it's the power supply because it's exactly like the sound some AC adaptors make if you put your ear to them.

This was happening as soon as I bought it a few months ago. I'm not concerned -- I just switch off the plug at the socket for times when I don't need the PS4 in "rest mode".

Is anyone having problems sharing photos? It wont allow me to select any. I have done it in the past. Any ideas?

Not sure if you got this sorted, but I had a similar problem when I had too many upload notifications in my list. I had to go into Notifications and manually delete a bunch of notifications. Bit odd, but worked like a charm.

Also, Notifications is a weird word.

Anybody had a problem with their privacy settings? I had to change mine before the weekend and now when I try to access them via profile->privacy settings I just get the spinning circle and "please wait" - no matter how long I wait it doesn't let me access the settings. Pretty annoying as it's locked down quite tight so I can't receive or send friend/party requests or squat.

Whats the distance like on the wireless for the PS4 controllers?

I like to store my consoles upstairs in an AV cupboard which is probably 5m from where I sit in the front room. The signal will go through a floor and ceiling. Wii U cant make it although I think that has a notoriously short range.
