PlayStation 4 Console Thread

I got mine about 6 weeks ago, maybe it's 7 weeks already? Anyway, I don't regret getting one at all. I bought it to play The Witcher 3, but I haven't even touched that yet *shakes fist at Destiny and Rocket League*

Just started on the new Batman game, and I find it to be great, can't wait to delve deeper into it.

How n00b friendly is Destiny? I don't mind the always online thing as long as I can jump in and out and get a good and rewarding game when I feel like it...

You can do most of the content solo or with the matchmaking on Strikes. Otherwise when you get stuck, you just post in the Destiny thread and one of us lifers hops on and shoots all the baddies for you.

I played it solo until you get to the bit, a long ways in, where you have to find magic armour (or whatever) to level up. That requires other people and is the point when I stopped playing.

It doesn't really require others to get past the lvl 20 cap and into the 30s using Light. But I would suggest that unless you think you're likely to want to hours into it with others, it's probably not the game for you. The point of the game is to get to play the end game content.

Well, obviously there's no pause button, and whether it's wise to arrange or join an online session depends upon the activity in question and how long you'd call 'a prolonged period of time'. Some things - like the weekly Nightfall and other strikes - are usually over in between 10 and 30 minutes. Others - like a raid when it's just come out - can take many hours. In the latter case, dropping out suddenly, or without warning every now and then, can cause problems. In the former case it's probably fine.

It really all depends on how deeply you get into the game.

I'm in. When the Halo hype turns up I know I'd have folded and went xbox. Simply had to play Bloodbourne and SFV tho so now seems as good a time as any. Will probably check out Destiny later but for now I have Bloodbourne, Batman and I'm loving the Driveclub demo and Rocket League.

Need friends - coming from 360 (and WiiU) my friends list is empty. Will upgrade the plus version of Driveclub soon so if you have times I can fail miserably at beating please add -psn id is gustocmf.

I loved geometry wars on 360. Is GW3 worth it? I hear people recommend Resogun, is it better?

I don't mind playing with other people - it's just whether I need to do it for very prolonged periods of time.

because I'm the kind of person who doesn't often get long dedicated periods of time and use the pause button a lot.

You can probably play the game to death by playing it solo. By that, I mean you'll come to a point where you need to do "Strikes" (Destinys equivalent to dungeons), but luckily there's a rather nifty matchmaking feature for this, so you hardly ever need to plan anything in advance. With that said, the game is a LOT more fun when you team up and play with people you actually know. I played the majority of the game with a good mate and my brother and I had a laugh, whenever they weren't online I simply didn't like playing it alone after I got the taste for playing it socially.

I've not played Geometry Wars 3, but you should buy Resogun regardless. It's glorious.

I'm also looking for a ps4 this side of Christmas - Witcher and Rocket League may have sold me. What is the consensus on a "good" price for a 1tb model and maybe a couple of games thrown in? Most of the places I've looked at have been in the £340 region or else looked mildly dodgy.

Thanks for the reply. Is it worth trying to 'clean' the vents at all? Or is it just dusting the top etc sufficient?

I occasionally run the nozzle of the hoover along the front and back vents on my consoles but I think last time I did that I lived in Dundee so God knows how much fluff is clogging up my PS4. It's a lot quieter now it's lying down in a big open space under my TV though vs vertically stacked six inches from the wall.

I had to sell my ps4 this month, started a new job and I needed the money to cover rent until my first pay check. Anyway I formatted the hard drive but forgot to deactivate my account. When I replace it will it be easy to set the new system as the primary machine?

Discovered an interesting bug in the latest firmware. If you boot the console from rest mode by ejecting the disc. It will no longer read discs and won't shut down properly afterwards. It's worth noting I have multiple accounts as well which maybe a contributing factor.

If you are having this issue then it's not a dodgy drive it's just an easily avoided firmware fault.
