PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Yeah, as a new PS4 owner with two years of PS+ and a tendency to jump between games the bar is more or less useless to me (in fact, even if I did want to play the same games repeatedly it wouldn't be much use, as I've of course downloaded all the games I might want, and it orders games that were just downloaded ahead of games that were recently played).

Every time I want to play a game that isn't on a disc I have to scroll all the way to the Library then browse through its tiles to find what I want. For me, that aspect of the new interface is the worst thing about the machine.

(I much prefer the way it handles background downloads and the store in general, though, and the Vita style suspend and resume feature is neat, though I don't use it overnight)

In news that will surprise no one, the rubber on the pad that replaced one of my launch pads, has itself split.

Not bad though, considering its my Son's pad. FIFA14 and Lego marvel...

My pad is the one they let me keep, when the refunded it. I dunno if I should thumb cap his stick now, or crack open my magma red one...

J/K, lol!

My Playstation 4 arrived today! Spent 4 hours on Last of Us, really enjoying it. On Normal difficulty though, I'll see if I want to try other difficulties but not really fussed with that right now.

I personally don't like Playstation 4 UI. Think Xbox One's much better but that's not saying much; I just wish I can hide some of things I won't ever need. Like Music, can I just hide that along Playroom? I'm deaf and I have no plans getting camera for PS4, unless it's super-duper cheap.

At least I can now view what games I've not yet to download under Library rather than going on PS Store, which I really like. Just wish it's at START of the UI, not all the way to the end... oh and short USB cable sucks arse. That being said I expected that really.

But I'm loving the console. So light, has all matte finish (as in I guess I got new PS4 build?) and I like how it looks.

Aces, good deal at Shopto then!

Drive Club is still downloading :( Hope I end up liking it then! (Loved Motorstorm 2 & 3 so I'm hoping it's bit like it or at least feels more arcadey-fun than realistic simulator-y)

Think the only way to hide certain bits on the PS4 dashboard is to load enough other programs so that something like music ends up getting pushed off the line and into the library.

You can make them private by ticking a box when you set them up. Been like that forever.

Yeah I know that seems to default to private now though. And other people in the party can't inviw, only "suggest" to the party owner that they should invite someone.

is shadow warrior worth £11 new?

I went in with middling expectations and still abandoned it halfway through. I found the gunplay extremely flat and as an ode to the classic original and Duke Nukem / Blood etc therefore totally unforgivable. Terrible loading times and it ain't a looker either.

how about £7?

It's comfortably worth trying at that price. It's not for everyone, but some of us really enjoyed it, so if you think you can afford £7 it's surely worth a punt! Unlike Down by Law, I liked both the gunplay and swordplay, and will happily recommend it to arena shooter fans in general, though I must admit I've only played it with keyboard and mouse.

As a 37 year old man, this is slightly embarrassing, but has anyone picked up the Yi Gi Oh card game on PS4?

For reassurance I've never been into Yu Gi Oh, nor do I know anything at all about it, but used to really enjoy the card game on the DS years ago. It was a genuinely great strategy CCG. Just wondered if they've tampered with it much in the intervening decade.

Bit disappointed by the quality of Twitch streaming on the PS4.. can it do 60fps? Are there any other options other than the one drop down box? Looks horrendously choppy vs my streams direct from PC..

I haven't, but it does have a demo so you can give it a go at least. I may also have downloaded it to try later.

Does it? I couldn't see that anywhere! Cheers for letting me know.

Edit - it's there now. I swear it wasn't showing a demo when I looked at it earlier!

For anyone that cares it seems good. Plays exactly as I remember - which is a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. £15 for a game that hasn't changed in a decade....or £15 for the game I remember really enjoying all those years ago. Probably cheaper than picking up a DS and a copy of it for that, plus it has all the online stuff so I can get my ass kicked by American teenagers who actually know what a Yu Gi Oh is.

Given the dearth of CCG's on the PS4 at the mo, I'll go for it I reckon.

Just a questions guys about cleaning and positioning of the PS4.

At the moment it is in a 'baby bookcase' setup so a fair amount of room around it (next to a Tivo box) but the back of the PS4 is quite tight to the back of the bookcase. I've noticed recently it's running a lot louder than before, could it possibly be that there is not enough ventilation? The bookcase is only a cheap one so I am able to remove the back of it, obviously cosmetically it's not ideal but I'm not sure whether it would help at all?

Also with regards to cleaning it, I've heard several people say use compressed air then others use a hoover, is there any definitive guide to help clear the dust from the fans/vents?

Cheers!

The back of the machine is where the majority of the heat vents from, block that and it'll be having difficulties.
