PlayStation 4 Console Thread

There's a current 'PS4 Calendar' advert of key upcoming releases which has FFVII Remake down as 2016. No Man's Sky is mentioned but only as TBA, no year given, while Shenmue 3 isn't listed at all. Oh, and according to this The Last Guardian is coming before Ratchet & Clank.

So I see no reason not to believe that FFVIIR is definitely, absolutely, without question coming out in 2016. Hooray!

By the way, next month's big PS4 title is Until Dawn, and you better be looking forward to that because the only other choices are Madden 16 and Disney Infinity 3.0.

Release schedules have been very slim this gen. I remember having multiple games per week delivered, that's not even counting the downloadable games from Steam, PSN/XBox Live, or the PSPlus stuff.

I suppose it's good as I'm properly wringing every game I buy for value.

I somehow got through on my 2nd 360. And the first one got repaired and also still works.

Some kind of miracle basically.

I had two 360s - launch one that I sold working to get the elite one, sold that working a couple of years ago so the 360 was pretty much the most reliable console I have owned :o

Obv never had a Nintendo console go wrong outside of the snes I blew up!

I still play my non-slim 360 quite regularly (my MW2 box) and it's way louder than my PS4 at its loudest - which only spins up its fans from time to time. That said I've noticed the PS4 getting louder more often so maybe need to hoover it. Xbox One, by contrast, is incredibly quiet. Never heard it.

All the PS4 fan noise discussion has been really boring btw! However, I'm a boring bastard myself, so let me add something:

I'm playing The Witcher 3 right now, and I'm not exactly distracted by how loud the fan gets, but I'm distracted by how variable it is. The fan RPM keeps gearing up and down depending on what's on screen, between at least 3 volumes - slightly loud, very loud and jet engine loud. It's more distracting than one single loud volume.

Still can't buy credit with my Paypal account. It still says my credit card isn't valid. Looks like I ain't getting that free £10 :(

Mine was doing that. I removed all my account details (removed my bank card and my paypal information) I then readded paypal as an option and it worked.

The fan noise on the PS4 is really annoying. The original 360 was even louder but the revised model was extremely quiet, especially when games were installed to the hard drive, to the point where I often forgot it was on. The PS4 can be quiet on some games but on others it can drastically ramp up the volume. It's not always on the games you'd expect either. Batman Arkham Knight was relatively quiet for example, and that game seems to be doing loads on a technical level. The Last of Us and Killzone on the other hand were incredibly noisy, especially if you brought up XMB in-game.

It's a shame that they seem to have compromised on the noise of the thing just so they can fit it into a small box and can boast no external thingy (can't remember the proper name) on the AC lead, neither of which actually matters when it's installed. Aesthetics over function.

A big point about the complaining is it is pretty hot and ambient temp is going to have a big impact on how hard the fans have to work, factor in dust build up and more people are going to be suffering around now esp some people seem to have the units in enclosed cabinets etc.

I'm not defending Sony or that there isn't a inherent fault but when I thought mine may be suffering my thermometer said the room was 28+ degrees :o Ps4, amp and big plasma heating the room up!

There's only so much you can do though. Mine's in a well ventilated open unit with loads of space all around it, kept dust free and regularly cleaned/hoovered. It's just a noisier console unfortunately. Performs perfectly otherwise, and a lot of the time is absolutely silent, even playing games.

I tried that and it did nothing.

Support said its been escalated, but didn't tell me how long it would take, despite me telling them that I wanted to use the paypal deal before this weekend. I got an email last night telling me to use the paypal deal before it ran out. I wish I could :(

Edit: the guy from support told me the offer ends on the 1st not the 31st, and that I should ring on Friday if I've heard nothing and they would try to extend the deal or something if its still borked, so it might be worth a try doing that if you also wanted to use the deal but couldn't due to this cock up.

I'm not saying he's wrong, but it says in the T&Cs on the PayPal site 'The Promotion starts at 00:59 UK time on 16 June 2015 and ends automatically without notice at the earlier of the following: (i) the time that the aggregate monetary amount credited by PayPal to Promotion participants reaches GBP 120,000.00 (“Promo Cap”); (ii) the time of termination of the Promotion by PayPal at any time for any reason in its sole discretion; or (iii) 23:59 UK time on 31 July 2015 (“Promotional Period”).' So if it's Sony support giving you this info, I'd not be very confident it's correct.

Yeah, I dont believe it for a second, but the more people phoning about it the better. Might give them the kick up the arse they need to sort this credit card nonsense (they've had this issue for years apparently).

I'm going to miss out on the paypal deal, I know this. Which also means I miss out on a cheap(er) chance to get TTK, which is what is actually annoying about it all

Guys with loud PS4s definitely take it out of its cabinet/enclosure, makes a huge difference. Not had any bother with noise, unlike my 360 which had twin boeing engines and made me very, very angry.

My PS4 sits on top of a wide and deep TV unit. It has all the ventilation you could wish for. Some are quiet, some not so quiet, and some are loud as fuck. You must have one from the first category! Mine is from the latter, and it's frustrating. Once I get mine back from GAME, it's being traded in for the new revised version.

Got my PS4 back from Sony this morning. The accompanying letter said that they detected a fault & have given me a new console.

Wow, it really is whisper quiet! Had a quick go on F1 2015 and in all the places it used to spit out air faster than a Typhon... It's now just a tiny bit noisier than my MacBook Pro when it's not under much stress.

For anyone with a noisy PS4 & it's in a well ventilated area, don't take any shit & get a replacement if it's still in warranty.

So, my controller now has a sticky R2 trigger. I barely use the bloody PS4! Am I best sending it to Sony to replace, or trying to resolve it myself? I also have a pretty noisy PS4 in a well ventilated area...

Note - I have no other controllers, so no controller = no PS4.

Finally got my PSN credit. Had to remove the account on the PS4 (not on the site) then add it again (on the PS4) then it worked.

When you say remove the account, what do you mean? I've removed my payment details a few times to no effect, so if what you did works for me I'm all ears.

Edit: Tried it, did nothing. Still cant add funds or buy anything. Its an issue on Sony's side, so I can do nothing but wait till Friday it seems.

Sorry if already mentioned/ Has anyone had any issues with controllers not charging? I actually bought a new controller assuming my first was faulty but now they both charge strangely, seemingly at random whenever connected and the console is on. Is this a PS4 issue? I've tried different cables and both ports.
