PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Tomorrow Children (mentioned in the link above) always makes me sad, as it looks like the best, weirdest follow up to Dungeon Keeper ever made, and then you realise it's not a children-management-cum-city-defence game, but rather some sort of multiplayer Minecraft-em-up :(

Tried deleting my credit card info on my PS account and re-entering it and still no luck. I'll have to wait till Sunday/Monday now before I can try and buy anything again due to their supposed 24/48 hour security nonsense.

The fact it doesn't tell you anything about this is absurd. No email or even a message on your account info telling you your payment details are blocked or whatever. Never had any problem like this before with any service/shop.

It really is. Ask Davros - you know how big a fan of RE4 he was/is, right? And how much he hated (on his first ownership of it) Demon's Souls. Well, I think even he - or especially he - would probably agree with my statement. It's so good it even got him to try Demon's again, and actually enjoy it. It turned him. And lots of other people rate it as highly too, people who also love RE4. It really is a classic.

I'm one of those people who skipped Demon's and sort of bounced off Dark when it was given away on XBL but I've played a bunch of BB now and am looking forward to future content, so you really don't have to be a big Souls fan to get something out of this game. :)

(Sadly I never tried RE4 that much, but then my introduction to that was the PC game... :P )

Whenever I put the PS4 into sleep mode now it takes ages and after about 2 mins it goes beep-beep-beep like it's trying to eject a disc, then finally goes into sleep mode after about 10 mins.

It never used to do this. Does it mean the PS4 is likely on its way out? It's a launch machine so not under warranty.

Edit: now it's flashing white and the fan's going bananas. No choice but to unplug it.

my ps4 locked up the first time I turned it on, after my week away.

I started amazon lovefilm, but I wanted iPlayer. Amazon wouldn't stop running in the background, iPlayer wouldn't start properly.

So I tried resetting it, because am impatient. Nothing happened.

Tried the power button, also ineffective.

Eventually I had to turn it off at the mains.

Me again. I've received a reply from GAME.

They mentioned that my console is over 3yrs old whereas it's under 2yrs, but other than that I'm happy with the result thus far.

Thanks hugely for this collection of posts....

My launch PS4 started out fine then a few months in it sounded like a jet engine when I played certain games then it sounded like a jet engine in every game.... no dust etc. I just assumed like original 360 is was loud well louder infact!)

So given your experience I speculatively went into Argos and said something along the lines of "I have a PS4 from you from Nov 2013. It is basically super loud all the time which is a fault. Sony say this may be due to manufacturing fault applying thermal paste to heat sink so fans going full whack all the time and if under warranty they would repair it by reapplying thermal paste etc". they ummed a bit and I said that under SOGA if it is a manufacturing defect then I am covered under SOGA via them. They go to phone their head office support and sony... come back and say they can't get hold of them and what was I hoping for as a resolution? and I said as per SOGA I'd like a repair , or if not possible a replacement. They go away again and say ok we don't send them back for repair you can have a new one.

And then when in doing the swap they refunded my original PS4 and then charged me for the new one so they gave me £50 credit back on my card ... and then said oh the PS4's are coming with Bloodborne at the moment shall I put one in the bag...

So err well done Argos superb service and apparently I will be trying Bloodborne after all!

Basically I went in v polite and not even being firm just asking what they could do as per SOGA... and it was the manager who dealt , not a salesperson who made a mistake by processing my request wrongly.

That's great news. Argos are generally spot on with returns, going from what I've heard in the past. I hope you have better luck with the new one!

GAME received my unit on Friday morning, so I'm hoping it won't be too long until I have some news from them. Hopefully positive.

It's just luck as Id decided on launch day to buy one on launch day and first shop with stock was Argos...

Hope your repair/replace goes well and as for me it's just Karma as I usually have the shittest luck returning stuff lol.

Maybe now it doesnt sound like a formula 1 car I'll play it more.

Question is does anyone do cheap PS+ subs? I let mine lapse and now I may hear the cars over the PS4 I might give driveclub a go... One of the games that got me to buy a PS4 in first place and the game (non appearance) that eventually led me to buy Xbox One to supplement the PS4

So I called up Sony about my noisy PS4 and spoke to a guy who was really good actually. He told me to do the usual troubleshooting shit which we both knew isn't the issue (but he kind of had to tell me to do it regardless I'm guessing) and told me to rebuild the database/reinitialise the PS4 to see if it makes a difference and then call back tonight or tomorrow with the incident number he gave me. If it is still noisy - which is obviously will be as it has nothing to do with the hard drive, they'll arrange a pick up for repair/replacement.

I'm doing a full back up now and in my horror I realised in doing this, I'm GOING TO LOSE THE PT DEMO FOREVER WHEN IT GETS SENT OFF. Fucking konami :(

You shouldn't lose it if you use the official full backup and restore facility on the PS4.

EDIT: It's a new PS4 though! Not sure. Probably :(

EDIT2: This guy says it's possible - I remain slightly sceptical:

In any case, do a full backup and you can report back to us!

I have a very loud ps4 that is about 10 months old. From retroeds post it is implied Sony will replace or repair it for free. Is that the case, does anyone have a source for that so I can ask Sony to sort it?

How loud are we talking? I got my 1TB console the other day and the fans are on constantly after about 30 mins of play on bloodborne and the back of the console gets a bit toasty. The fans are steady though and don't get any louder when playing disc based games or graphics intensive stuff, i measured it with my iphone and it gets to 65db is that normal?

Just bought a PS4 with Bloodborne from Tesco, £289.99. I don't know if thats a good price but not really bothered. It was an impulse purchase. I love the souls games so looking forward to it.

I fully expect it to remain unplayed as I continue with my Destiny addiction on Xbox.

Mine was louder than the original 360 at full whack.

As loud as the PS3 was if you did that "trick" to force the fans to run full speed.

Had to wear headphones to avoid distraction

If it is anywhere near that loud get it replaced/repaired in warrantee

Aren't they doing an offer where you can get a ps4, Bloodborne and 2 other games for that price? My mate just ordered one.

I got my PS4 from Amazon on launch. It's also pretty noisy and has been for a while meaning I haven't used it much recently as I prefer the much quieter xbox one, I thought the PS4 was just naturally louder but it looks like I should be pushing for a swap. Any thoughts on whether I should go to Amazon or Sony direct, different retailers appear to be handling this in various ways.
