No, I mean I already have it and was trying to charge me anyway.

Exactly!

I'm in. Almost. Need to pick between DirectX 11 and 12.

Bollocks. Had to completely nuke my installation along with my carefully curated set of mods due to start-up scripting issues. Downloading again now.

Might treat myself to a bacon and cheese toastie in the meanwhile.

Oh dear, I'll definitely have to look into rolling this back to the pre-update version somehow. It's not looking anywhere near as good as how I had it, coupled with dips to 30FPS and stuttering all over the place and the fact that none of my mods are compatible.

It's likely a boon for console peeps, however if you currently have your PC install modded to the hilt as I did until a couple of hours ago you might want to keep it that way - or at least try and install somewhere else to try it first.

Played an hour or so. I can't handle the 30fps in RT mode on the SX, seems kind of stuttery. 60fps Performance Mode looks visually identical to my old eyes (and my new telly*) so I'll be using that and it's very smooth

Spoiler

Did I mention my new telly 😛

It's a really nice touch I thought to have The Witcher 3 running great pre-patch on Steam Deck to now running like dogshit with seemingly no way to go back. Good stuff!

The new intrusive launcher is cool too and DX12 crashing the entire game as it loads in is a super nice addition.

Overall, really impressed with this 👍

Downloading it on the X just to see how it looks, then probably deleting it again - so to hear it basically looks the same is... eh.

And no way in hell am I putting up with 30fps for ray tracing. It's one of the worst tradeoffs you can make, like trading your eyeballs for a pair of prescription glasses.

You're right, that is a terrible idea as you need your eyeballs to use with the glasses. This sounds like a right old mess.

It’s quite easy to roll back. I did it immediately after posting last night. You need to set your Steam account to accept betas and then navigate to which version you prefer installing from ‘properties’ when right-clicking the game within the steam library. They have only one other option and that’s 1.32 Classic. :)

The RT isn’t anywhere near as effective in this as Cyberpunk, and also seems a ton more demanding even on a respectable PC. I thought global illumination was going to be killer as well. Pretty gutted tbh.

I'm definitely on the patch now (v4.0) - can see many of the new features

But nothing about graphic settings (Performance vs RTX) in graphics menu

(I'm on PS5, connected to a 4k Samsung QLED)

Anyone else in same boat?

 It’s definitely the ps5 version you’ve downloaded ?

I’ve never played this before, got a key for a couple of quid last weekend.

I started it last night (Series X) to see how it was, then jumped back in with the update this morning. The RT is nice, and the new screen space reflections look good, but I’m

not sure if I can play at 30fps. Considering I’ve been on an N64 kick recently, I’m surprised how much I need 60fps for modern games 😂

Using the cross-save I just ran a few comparison tests* on XBSX vs PS5 around Touissant and I have to say Xbox seems to just edge it as is so often the case with multiformat stuff. Seems sharper and the foliage in some places is significantly more dense. Both look great though and the new camera angle and quick casting all seem to make is slicked experience overall.

Weirdest omission for me is that scrolling around the map still appears to be in 30fps. Not a gamebreaker but just a bit weird that they didn't bother. It's quite jarring.

Are the old-gen updates available yet, for PS4 etc?

I want to turn on cloud saves on my PS4 version so I can transfer over to the Series X but there's been no mention of the update times for XBO & PS4 as far as I can tell.

No, they are coming at a later unspecified date.

Oh right, cool, my bad.

Ah. Not a good start for me on PC - just finished updating, but the script editor pops up and decides nothing works.

We'll see how repairing it fares.

I really, really don't want to reinstall it all again...

Edit: Ah, deleting the mod folder worked out for me.

Looks lovely - it's always looked lovely, but I do appreciate the new water reflections!

Mine has just finished d/l'ing in the background while I'm wfh-ing.

No chance to try it firsthand yet obv, but I did look up a few early hands-on videos last night.

Tbh the main difference I can see is draw distance, foliage and color grading.

Agreed with the above, rt is nice but not for the performance hit most people will get. Agree it probably benefits modern urban environments better, but to my eyes the biggest effect in this is a) seperating out the foliage a bit better with deep shadows, b) water reflections. And admittedly both of those seem to be things you see modern games fake fairly well with non-RT solutions. For all the grace with which the game has aged, I would say the water is the weakest aspect - just looks a bit thick and viscous to me, unnaturally deep colour and off movement, so benefits the most from the new reflections. But that's not a technical issue, more an artistic one. In fairness they also have the best skyboxes I've ever seen, so, y'know....*shrug*

I am curious as to how it runs with all other things being equal, rt off etc.

I just had a quick run around the tutorial area with kid ciri for 2 minutes, seemed a bit smoother than the old version to me? Admittedly despite my best efforts the gfx settings may not be exactly the same as the old one (wish I'd thought to write them down first); just whacked em all on high for the moment. Weirdly the AA was defaulted to FSR despite me having a 3070.
