The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I've got this on my backlog list for pc, but have been playing other stuff while waiting for news on the next-gen update to come out, so that'll be interesting.

Only other game I can think of to do similar is Metro, so I'm assuming it'll be something like that. Depends on the performance hit tbh.

Christ, the state of CDPR.

I've said this before... the current version of the Witcher 3 is awesome on Xbox Series X.

It runs at 60 fps, all the time and I think it 4K? It looks amazing, and it a well functioning and mature peice of software.

With the "smart delivery" system, I'm not sure I want CDPR deploying a broken early access version of the "next-gen" game over the top of it!

I'm a good way through this on NG+ having just made a start on a couple of quests from HoS, I'm at level 88 and I'm sad to say I've finally had to retire my Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword. It's done me proudly for so long with it's amazing buffs but the DPS is just too damn weak now and it's taking ages to kill stupid bandits. Sigh.

Also I'm not sure if the feline armour was the way to go (currently wearing Superior Legendary) as I seem to die with about three hits, meaning most fights with multiple enemies is an endless case of dodging and Quenning. One the plus side it makes attacks pretty damn strong, so who knows.

RIP trusty sword. You shall have pride of place in my Toussaint vineyard.... right at the very very end of the whole damn thing.

I just bought this on Xbox (£6.99 in the sale and will get the next gen upgrade, whenever that comes).

Is it confirmed to be 4K in performance mode? I think it uses DRS, and I can’t tell a difference between 4K and performance modes, apart from the frame rate.

I’m tempted to hold off and see if the next gen update lets you import PC saves, but I’ve never completed Blood and Wine and am thinking about doing a standalone run of that.

Funny how a game that I thought was the pinnacle of game graphics is starting to show its age!

For some reason I too double-dipped on this one and picked up the Xbox version too (I'm a strange fellow, as I seem to do this all the time!), but it certainly does look like it's 4k all the way through on a Series X, plus it's effectively locked at 60fps too.

I also bought it. Finished the main game and the first DLC on PC back when it came out but I never played Blood and Wine, so this will be a nice way to revisit the game. I'll wait for the next gen patch because why not.

I also bought this for 7 quid on the Xbox. Played through all the base game and the first expansion on PS4.

Currently deep in the Bloody Baron quest which is surprisingly early on in the game.

Looking forward to the free upgrade when it comes but the loading time difference is already insane.

Maybe, but they’ve been pretty light on detail for what’s in the patch - I’m expecting it to be pretty thin, myself, given how they’ve probably been working flat out on CyberPoo for the last year, but I’d still like to see the updates. It’s been nearly four years - I might as well wait a little longer!

Watching Witcher Season 2 made me want to do some Witchering myself. I clocked exactly 300 hours on the Steam version of Witcher 3, I didn't even realize it until after I finished the last expansion and checked. So I don't want to start that version again and leave it at a perfect 300. Instead I bought the Xbox version for cheap during a sale and I'm going to fire up the current gen version once it arrives

Excellent writing but hard to deal with if you're a parent yourself.

As I recall, @Laine played through that quest while pregnant. FUCK. THAT!

I'm replaying this again on PC, and in addition to my usual mods (proper blue skies in Toussaint (obvs), no dirty lens effect, and HD textures) I've installed a few choice mods. For example, all the NPCs are now completely naked, and all the women have more shapely bodies. Kidding! Though if you look at Nexus mods, those are among the most popular - WTF!?!?

What I have done is installed a mod that actually gives Keira a more glamorous outfit for her dinner with Geralt (unlike the default that just adds sleeves to her dress), a mod that adds scabbards for every sword on the game so that NPCs don't look like their about to accidently chop their own legs off, and a Trader that has all the Gwent cards so that I can just buy them all (though I still had to win Letho just now). But the most important and best one? TROLL SUBTITLES!! I now don't have to either:

a) Put up with not understanding a troll when speaking, or

b) Turn on subtitles for everyone just so I can understand the trolls.

:D

Edit: My troll subtitle mod subsequently turned on subtitles for everyone apart from Geralt. Had to remove the mod. :(

I also had High Quality Faces, which looks really good. No Fall Damage, because Geralt seemed to get injured incredibly easily whilst navigating slopes. Fast Travel From Anywhere, because life is too short, but be careful with one quest because it can screw it up. Nitpicker's Patch, which cleans up several dodgy visuals.

Amazing how good this game from 2015 can look if you plonk on a few mods. This is the Photorealistic Reshade which I've not tried, but looks pretty sweet.

Mine's modded to absolute perfection. Ghost Mode is one hell of an overhaul.

I'm really impressed with how I have my HUD (or lack thereof) and how it all fades in and back out again with each pulse of Witcher Senses.

This is what's best about PC gaming.
