All hail the Switch. I'd bought this for the other two consoles previously and barely got beyond the griffin fight and now, after 11 months and 90-some hours of handheld adventuring and subconsciously learning Polish, have finished. Hurrah! I think I got a pretty terrible ending but I like that in a weird way - it wouldn't have been fitting for it all to work out. Things got a bit hairy when it crashed (for the sole time) during the final boss fight of all places, and my Switch has never wheezed harder than in those final two hours, but impressive stuff for a mid-tier tablet from over three years ago overall.

Even in the best possible ending things are not all fine in the end. The worst though, that’s fucking bleak.

The rest of Heart of Stone was wonderful, a proper gothic romance with a Silent Hill /Resident Evil vibe. And tonight, after eleven months, I finally finished the main story with what I think was a fairly happy ending (for the main characters at least.) This is without a doubt now one of my favourite games I've ever played, like swimming about in a massive fantasy novel with great little stories everywhere, excellent voice acting and a beautiful world to roam around in.

Now there's nothing left but to track down some fancy Witcher gear and head over to Toussaint for a bit of blood and wine, and maybe hope for another sequel some time in the future.

Did anybody else find that nobody's lips move outside of cutscenes and, if so, how did you fix it (not just NPCs, which I gather is a bit hit-and-miss, but Geralt too)? I have a Lips and HiRes Shadows mod which is meant to do something but it doesn't appear to and it's making it really, really hard to play as it is.

How does this affect your gameplay? You don’t really see it in the gameworld. Every conversation in story, quests, etc or stores, smiths etc is fine with the lips moving. Are you playing a first person mod?

@Talk Show Host Well I've only got so far as the inn right at the start of the game, and it is incredibly jarring to have Geralt and Vesemir/Ciri/Yennifer chatting away with absolutely no lip/mouth or face movement. I just can't get past it, especially when everything else looks so good.

At the moment I'm assuming it's due to a mod, so am going to have fresh install and try again, because I can't believe a title of this profile could have something that, to me, looks, quite frankly, incredibly amateurish.

You’ve definitely got a bug in there somewhere...everything should lip-sync to a certain degree that’s for sure.

Just finished this now.  I hated the very last boss (at the end of Blood and Wine), as it was just unpleasantly hard (and I really wanted the game to be finished at this point), so I had to switch to the lowest difficulty, but job done.  The ending was great, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole journey.

Just gutted now that I won't be able to jump in and enjoy their next game as much, as it's first person.

Roll on Witcher 4!

In just enough time for Cyberpunk, I've finally completed the story in Blood & Wine after about 4 years of on/off playing and racking up 130 hours in the game world. That's quite a lot for me - very likely to be the most time I've ever spent on a single player game.

I thought the last couple of hours of B&W were a really good encapsulation of all that is good with The Witcher - the story in the last hour or two was really gripping, the decisions I made and the resulting outcomes felt right based on my actions and decisions. I even enjoyed the oft criticised combat, and death by menu when it came to getting tooled up and prepping for fights.

Final B&W spoilers:

Spoiler

After deciding that Detlaff had gone too far by slaughtering a whole city after being suckered into murdering a bunch of folks by his lady, I ended up helping Orianne (?) with her orphanage/blood bank and was horrified seeing all those child corpses strewn about - brutal. Then I was fuming when I came back to see her munching down on one of the surviving kids. Then I went to see the creepy head vampire, enjoyed the final showdown with Detlaff but then both the Duchess and her sister ended up dead after I realised that the Duchess was going to be the fifth victim and advised that the sister be punished for her treason. Thankfully Yen showed up afterwards and I was feeling pretty good about my fancy chateau, even if Regis had to sod off as he was disowned by the other vamps.

That was an epic last couple of hours - I was completely immersed. Naturally, I'll keep the whole thing installed and dip into side quests when I need a taste of it and realistically I will never finish all those off.

I read that CDP are working on a next-gen update which will include ray tracing and other nice things, so well worth keeping it on the SSD for the future.

What a game though

I've still never played Skyrim either, due to feeling the need to mod it and then hearing about all the time it takes (there was an old page years ago I was going to follow that said it would take a couple of days). Perhaps I should never buy moddable games.

Get yourself a decent VR setup and then just play it in VR with no mods. Or preferably minimal mods that don't take long to sort out.

Did I read somewhere that it will include some/bits of the more popular mods, or am I making that up?

Yeah, ‘took inspiration from’ was the phrase I think.

New Netflix trailer for Season 2 just arrived too. What’s the bet ‘this year’ is actually end of December to coincide with that coming out.

I don’t think they will, but it would be lovely if they added a bit more nuance to the controls. It’s one of the areas where the game shows its age...the jump between walking/riding slow to running/galloping is literally just ‘on’ or ‘off’ and just popping it on again now, it’s a bit jarring compared to more recent games!
