What ending did you get, @scottcr

Just seen your tweet, looks like you got the best ending. Though others may (100% incorrectly) differ.

I never play for that ending because it's clearly 100% wrong and doesn't understand the character of Ciri at all.

At.

All.

:p

Ooo. What’s the various endings?

I haven't gone and looked them all up, and there's a few separate endings to the subplots that don't tie to the main plot. But the short summary is, from memory:

Spoiler

Ciri dies whilst trying to save the world and failing.

Ciri lives, and hangs out with Geralt and becomes a Witcher

Your ending.

From the above I reckon

Ciri becoming a Witcher is probably the most fitting one - but that’ll doom Yennefer to a lifetime incarcerated by the Emperor and Phillipa surely?

there are no good endings I suppose - I felt mine was the lesser evil ;)

There's a set of Geralt/Yennefer/Triss endings based on how you did or didn't romance them, a set of Ciri endings based on (a slightly arbitrary rulling on) how and if you were a decent role model to her, and a set of world state endings based on if you got involved with Northern politics (Nilfgaard might win, the North might hold them off, bad or worse people might be in charge). Again, from memory here.

How do you get each ending?

Spoiler

If you're a dick to ciri, she dies as she feels she has nothing to live for so may as well sacrifice herself.

If you deprive Ciri of the opportunity to meet Emyr, but are otherwise not a dick to Ciri, she lives and becomes a Witcher.

If you allow Ciri to meet Emyr, but then take the money as the reward, but otherwise are not a dick, she becomes a Witcher. If you take the money and are a dick, Ciri dies (I think).

If you let her see Emyr, don't take the reward (you did it for her, not the coin) and are not a dick because you've given Ciri the freedom to make her own choices, and be her own person, then she decides to become Empress.

The Empress ending is officially the best ending as per CDPR. The "fans" consider the Witcher ending to be the best one because they're imbeciles who would clearly make for very bad, overly controlling parents. ;)

well - quite - I thought a key message at the end is that

Ciri can't be controlled - so there's no point even trying.  She has to be left to make her own choice.  Avallach held her back from the battle deliberately knowing that when she decided she was going to go in anyway, it would be the right time and she'd be able to control her powers.  Also,  Geralt said to Avallach at the time that there's no point as well... and it cut away from Avallach with a knowing smile. So whenever I was given a choice, I let her do what she wanted... like smashing up Avallach's room and stuff...

I was really happy with the ending I got.

Ooft!  Lots of possibilities.  Again, with Temeria becoming a country again in my ending, it felt like a good one.

Apart from @Oz, who got the bad ending and was thoroughly depressed with it. ;)

I watched the bad ending bit when Ciri goes through her memories - you'd have to go out of your way to be a total dick :)

I also don't believe that

Ciri or Geralt die in the bad ending

How on earth do you beat the Toad Prince in the HOS dlc?

Ive looked online and it all refers to bombs (which I’ve never used before) some advanced version of Igni which I’ve no idea how to get or using Yrden which simply doesn’t work as the toad seems to avoid it at all costs. I’ve gone and levelled up a bit so I’m a couple of levels higher than the recommended level and that isn’t helping either.

Please help!

With everything going on at the moment, and work closing last weekend, I've been playing this a lot, and its been a godsend. Finally got around to clearing out all of the contracts, treasure hunts and secondary quests that were below my level and just arrived at Kaer Morhen. No idea how much more there is to go in the main quest, but I'm enjoying the ride. Hoping to get to the end by the end of the month for the Persona 5R release, then I'll come back for HoS and BaW. Got all the potions I use up to superior, all the oils too at that level, settled on my skills and the Wolven gear set as my end goal as it seems to suit the best, and looks smart as well. Using the other sets as I level though to keep the armour up. Happy with the decisions I've made around Yann and Triss, but have avoided any end game spoilers so god knows what ending I'll end up with as of yet.

Whats made it really interesting is that my 16 year old is playing as well. He's a way behind me at the moment, but he has taken such a different route with skills and his approach to combat is totally different from mine. Really interesting to see someone else play it, and the decisions he is making. And for some reason he enjoys Gwent, which I have ignored all the way through.

I too ignored Gwent on my first run through.

But then the addiction happened on my next run.

It's a marvellous game, and I far prefer it to the stand alone version of the thing. There's a simple elegance to the proceedings!

Part of the problem is the small font. My eyes are terrible even with glasses, and I sit a fair way from the TV. Until I upgrade that later in the year, trying to see the small text in Gwent is too much of an effort! I'm fine with all the menus etc, but struggle with Gwent. I really don't feel I'm missing out too much though, there is so much else to do.

Ah, playing on PC here, so haven't had that problem - but I do know it was an issue!

You don't miss out on much if you don't play Gwent, although there are one or two side quests that will work in your favour a little if you can play the game (and have a fairly decent set) though. But that's the triumph of the game, you can just as easily play loads of quests you'll not even have noticed on your first run through!

One thing that is really a failing in my opinion is the exploration in Skellige. In Velen, the question marks were all over the place and were interesting to do. A big variety of stuff, you found some other quests on the way, they were great fun. In Skellige, they are a pain in the backside. With the nature of the area, they are all out at sea, and most are smugglers caches. They are a blatant way to farm coin with no real variety. In Velen, you have so many different things. Skellige, its all shoot Sirens, collect crappy reward, trade for crowns. In Velen, you had to find your way to some of them, the Skellige ones are just dull. I decided to stop them until I realised I needed money to craft some stuff and then it becomes a case of an hour of grind.

Granted, its a small gripe in a great game, but I think they could have cut down the Smugglers Cache stuff.

I pretty much avoided all the ? that are in the sea

Yeah, I really liked Skellige but I definitely didn’t go for all the question marks.

The bit that was a bit flat for me was Novigrad: too confusing to navigate by eye, so I ended up spending most of my time squinting at the Witcher satnav on the minimap, and the hunt for Dandelion went on for ages. After the amazing Bloody Baron questline it felt like quite a comedown.
