I read so many comments saying stay away from performance mode on xbone X, that 4K was the way to go. Well it's definitely not, the responsiveness of performance mode makes the game so much better.

Yep. There's really daft button lag on the PS4 version that drove me mad despite loving the game. I have it on PC now it's fucking bliss!

I've tried this twice the last couple of years, but only managed an hour or so each time.

After watching the Netflix show, in considering playing again. Any pointers on what I should be looking for / doing so I might enjoy it and get into it?

I'm giving it another try after watching the show but I used the exploit to get a lvl 34 Geralt and loads of ability points, etc. Enjoying it a lot more now without having to waste time grinding.

Question - I completed the main game and HoS over a year ago and made a start on B&W. Then got distracted.

Can I restart B&W on NG+ reverting to my original level and game state I was on when I started B&W or do I need to have a save from that point? Or does if just drop you in as a fresh levelled-up Geralt?

Assume I don't lose any of my current manual saves if I choose to restart anyway?

I played 90 mins of this yesterday. It all feels a bit budget. I’ll keep at it for a bit. I’m sure it “gets going” or something

It needs more than 90 minutes to get the feel of it. Give it to the first major city.

Like Skyrim before it, the convenience of the Switch release is where this has finally clicked for me at the third time of asking. Looks a bit ropy on the telly but handheld  is my jam, runs very well and the performance/stability has been great for me so more than happy to trade flash for that.

After 35+ hours though I've done absolutely no alchemy and only a wee bit of crafting to see how it worked. Am I every going to regret this or is it fairly optional/something I might need later when things get a bit harder? I'm only level 11 and I can see quests in the mid-thirties so I've got light-years to go yet.

35 hours + and you're at level 11?? (as in, I'd expect you higher?)

I've only just started this, am at level 5 (not sure how long I've been playing; where do you find this info on PS4?)..

I finished the main quest without any alchemy, much to the surprise of someone at work ("no oils *either*?") - though I did keep changing my swords to match my level when I could.

Found the opening couple of hours a real slog, but everything else was broadly fine, as long as you pick your combat and sign skills wisely.

Cheers! I've got pockets full of stuff and I can't be arsed sorting/selling it now so hopefully I never need to bother either. I did get a rude awakening in a story quest early on where it threw a few mid-bosses at me that were my first real step up but there's been nothing like that in the Bloody Baron questline or the part beyond.

Really? I've played a fair bit of Gwent but not really pissed about too much. It just feels pretty stingy with the XP.

It's great on the Switch isn't it. I got as far as the start of the Bloody Baron quest on PS4 but lost interest soon afterwards but playing it on a portable on the easiest difficulty using the NG+ cheat from the previous page make it a lot easier for me to play who still doesn't understand how Gwent works. It looks fine graphically as well, the closest comparison I compare it to is the Rise of the Tomb Raider port on 360 which looked and played like the next gen version after a few hours because you stop noticing all the little graphical details like deforming snow that have been removed.

Soz, I wasn't exactly clear - I've only just started - I guess I was expecting the levelling curve to generate far more XP - although saying that, it appears to be slow levelling for me atm. The DLC, from what I've read, have suggested levels of 30+ (which I believe is once you've completed the main quest). So it appears this is quite a larger game than I was expecting. In my head, 40-60 hours would've been main story complete. Sounds more like 100 hours though.

Yeah, I'd say level 11 at 35 hours is smack bang right tbh, I know I've spent longer than that at a lower level!

It is quite a slow levelling up process for a western RPG to be honest, but that's one of the things I rather enjoy about it. It's not about grasping for ability points for a big hike in power, more finding the wee little gaps and tweaks in the interim.

The last time I started this I didn't bother with potions. I thought what's the point when you use have to keep brewing them  I didn't realise it's a one-time thing.

I do find potions and oils to be fiddly to use - the quick menu has been done better in other games. I didn't even know how to use my second slot of consumables for the first 15 hours. Trying to hold the dpad down during the heat of battle is a right pain.

The lore and world-building are so deep in this, and I love the feeling of peasant villages being nothing but shit and mud.

So that's how it's done. I couldn't find anything explaining this in the control scheme.
