After two playthroughs of avoiding it entirely I'm finally doing Gwent and am mildly to moderately addicted. 

 

On this playthrough I also started on Death March for the trophy. Not a winning combination, poor level 6 Geraldt is having to cheese his way through level 30+ areas just so I can get a Cow card. Worth it!

I've just done the main game for what I believe is the fourth time :p

 

It's still got it! 

 

And I always play everyone at Gwent, no matter what...it's hideously addictive fun. I attempted to play the standalone online version, but that's waaaay above my pay grade. I like the simplicity of the original :D

How bloody long is this game? I quit very early on PS4, but on Switch I'm about 40 hours in, Level 19 and still haven't even been to Skellige.

Happy just doing various Novigrad storylines and sidequests, currently investigating what happened to

Priscilla - quite the dark twist that one!

 

The map tells me there are dozens of noticeboard missions and Witcher contracts all over Velen that I haven't gone anywhere near yet. :lol:  Also hopelessly addicted to Gwent and want all the cards, but still only have a playable Northern Realms deck.

 

Am I even a third of the way through? This feels like being 150 hours, without even looking at the swarm of question marks (turned off thankfully) that completely obscure the map.

I'm at 193 hours played, on the one playthrough.  That's mostly to completion (main quest, expansions, known side quests and contracts).   I did go back to it recently though, and uncovered remaining question marks and stumbled into a couple of quests that I missed.  We're talking a 200+ hour game, if you wanna rinse all the content :)

this is why I'm looking forward to this on the switch - I've got it on my Santa list.  Just bumming around doing quests is ideal for the train and plane journies that I make.  On the PS4, I got to the point where I was just battering through to try and get to the end (I never did).

And even then you'll still miss out on the occasional (very) random missions that suddenly crop up (no signposting at all for them)!

I started playing this again last week and it’s still my favourite game world of all time.  I don’t even bother doing any quests most of the time, instead I just slowly trot around Valen, watching the sun rise and set, enjoying the gorgeous vistas on display and playing the odd game of Gwent.

 

i have to say while the game is a technical marvel on the Switch, I do feel the lower quality in graphics does take a lot away from what makes this game possibly my favourite game of all-time.

There's a few side missions that it helps in a little, but there's nothing major.

 

But you get sweet sweet cards!

 

And that's all that matters.

It's the base game. (Based game?) It includes all the free DLC but not the brilliant expansions. Still, anyone who somehow missed this or still unsure whether the undisputed game of the generation is for them, this is a good way to try it for free.

One tiny flaw I've noticed recently, a lot more obvious on Death March - I HATE the forced fist fights in this game. You end up in the invisible barriers whilst the camera goes mad and if you're not dodging perfectly for the five minutes or so it takes to grind an opponent down you're toast. So frustrating when you compare it to the rest of the combat.

I don't get why I can't use Signs in fist fights when challenged. For the 'boxing matches' fine, but if I'm jumped by some goons I want all my tools available (including the option to draw swords and either flat out obliterate them or frighten them off). Tiny TINY niggle though in this masterpiece.

Finished Blood and Wine yesterday so that's all of witcher 3 done. Both DLC packs were good but I preferred Hearts of Stone.

As much as I liked the witcher 3, I've definitely had my fill now. Was a bit relieved to finally finish the entire thing and put it behind me ;) It's been hanging around on my hard drive for a few years getting chipped away at.

Shame the switch version wasnt a thing when I bought it. Would have preferred not to have to go off to the pc in another room to play it.

Ι thought Hearts of Stone took more risks in the Witcher formula and had some brilliant moments. But as a conclusion of the saga I found Blood and Wine more fitting and satisfying, with a number of amazing quests and a fairy tale feeling which was spot on. Also, some excellent satire on the series itself and one of the best written scenes in any game today, the dinner conversation with Orianna and the rest. A supreme example of incredible writing, exposition, characterization, plot advancement and direction so above its peers that its not even funny.

Purchased it. And my new Xbox One X arrives tomorrow.
