Nintendo 3DS

Does anyone have any 3DS XL case recommendations? Probably an old topic. I have one, but I hate it, it has like a little net storage thing across the lid where the games are supposed to sit safely, but they don't. They always fall out and I think I've lost an SD Card somewhere in my tip of a house to it. It's a hard case.

I don't carry loads of games with me just a couple, but I'd like a decent case to keep them safe. I had a neat one for one of my old Gameboys or maybe even the original DS, official one with a separate zip compartment that could hold loads of stuff. Something like that would be nifty...

Which post method did you choose?

I did the £5 DPD option yesterday (Sunday) lunch time and it is out for delivery to my office today.

DPD apparently. Although it wasn't me that ordered it.

I have until the end of the day to order one on my account. I don't know what to do.

Yeah just do it. I don't know why your stressing over it. ;)

I would love a good RPG to get stuck into. But which one...

Pokemon (one of the new ones)

Bravely Default

Persona Q

Etrian Odyssea

Paper Mario

Is there one that stands out from that lot?

I also went fucking bonkers and bought 3 games from Argos for a tenner.

Street Fighter 4

Dead or Alive

Steel Diver

Steel Diver can't be THAT bad right? :)

Only get Persona Q if you are very familiar with Persona 3 and/or 4. It's a spinoff aimed entirely at fans of those games. It is really good, like, but will be totally lost on you otherwise. Etrian Odyssey is pretty much the exact same gameplay (and same developer) but without the Persona trappings and would be the best bet of that lot if you are up for a fairly difficult dungeon crawler. Bravely Default is essentially a traditional Final Fantasy game without the tainted brand that series has developed. Not for me but people who do like that type of RPG loce it. I bought Pokemon Omega Ruby... I found it deathly dull.

There are quite a few other decent RPG options, though for whatever reason almost all of the 3DS ones are nichey RPG subgenres. Fwiw I find Rune Factory 4 very compelling despite truly hating the moe anime aesthetics.

Despite getting the email I haven't been able to get one of those Ambassador 3ds's as the link provided doesn't recognise my password even though the same password works on other parts of the site. I've emailed Nintendo but had no reply :(

The DS has a much better line up of traditional RPG's than the 3DS. Dragon Quest VI is currently £3.79 at Argos. That's where I'd start.

Steel Diver is pretty bad imo! However at that price, you've done well. Streetfighter is a great handheld version.

That is true, the DS easily has the deepest library of awesome games of any handheld, that platform saw the last hurrah of great Japanese game development in some ways. Radiant Historia is supposedly really good as far as DS RPGs go.

I'm in the same boat. Everything is telling me it's not enough of an upgrade to bother with, but my impulsive fan boy side is screaming "do it".

Ah, but I already have one ordered - just not dispatched. I don't know if that order is fucked and so I want to order another in case. But then if the first one comes through, I'll have two.

Did you use your Club Nintendo logon, or your Nintendo Store logon?

The boys one has gone missing, DPD were supposed to deliver yesterday, the tracking link never went live, DPD say they have never scanned it in, Nintendo say they (The HUT Group) dont know where it is, nor do they know what they will do about the fact I paid nearly £9 for a sunday delivery, that wasnt met.

Got mine today from Yodel..even though I only paid for it on Saturday and chose the free delivery option. Surprising good service from them.

Only had time to open up the box and have a look but after coming from an XL it feels really small. Not a bad thing though just weird.

On holding it it does feel weirdly small but in a nice way.

That's what she said.

Will probably be as good, control wise.

I think the only real reason to get one now (like me) is lust combined with a desire to have the best 3D and solid hardware experience. Slightly bigger screens. Slightly better battery life, nice buttons etc.

I never got on with my XL when I upgraded and I am hoping this will reinvigorate my feelings for the 3DS. We shall see.

Gonna do the system transfer tonight. :)

I would absolutely get Bravely Default. The pants name put me off for ages but it's my favourite game in recent years now.

It's definitely in the spirit of Final Fantasy, with a brilliant job system that allows you to switch about like FFV or FFX-2. The characters are great, the voice acting is lovely to listen to (some slightly annoying folk as always) and the story keeps you on your toes all the way.

Heartily recommend it.

Pokemon is Pokemon and will scratch a different itch, but if you're into classic JRPG type things (combat is never dull) then Bravely Default is where it's at.

I wanna play again.

(There's a demo on the store, try it out, it doesn't spoil the main game at all as its a completely separate entity and you don't end up rehashing if you buy it!)

Is the sound on the new 3DS improved? Always wish the speaker and earphone output was louder on the previous hardware.

Good news for you sir!!

I too had a bit of an issue with the loudness (or lack of it) on both my old regular 3DS and on my XL. Opened up my new one yesterday and checked them out back to back (speaker only so far) and the new one is notably louder, hurrah.

Went a bit scientific today (did 5 or 6 readings on each, both at 12 inches away and time after time the results were the same) and the XL peaks at 96db with the new one coming in at 101db :).
