Nintendo 3DS

Is the sound on the new 3DS improved? Always wish the speaker and earphone output was louder on the previous hardware.

Judging by the previous page on the non-XL at least, no. Which puts me right off. I remember the initial reviews saying otherwise, maybe it was for the New XL?

I haven't had the email but even if I did I'm not interested at the moment. I don't like the visuals on it, I'd much rather have an XL size and this time I'm planning to wait until there's a really nice design I want.

Also I have to pay for a car service, insurance, mot and tax all in the next month. :(

I agree, i would prefer an XL as i have an XL atm - all this means is i will have a new XL too when that comes out ffs.

So I've got the option to get one due to the kindness of a local mukker and then my daughter tells me that she had an email from Nintendo! She got it a few days ago! Pocket money docked.

Best get to that email quick, they are only valid for about four days I think - which is probably why people are getting more emails in a batch now - these are the units not claimed by folks in that first round of now expired emails I bet.

I appear to have just placed an order for one of these bad boys. I intend to transfer everything over and sell my current boxed red 3DS XL.

2 questions....

  1. Will any 32GB SD HC card work? Samsung or Sandisk for example? Class 10?
  2. I have 5-10 GB of stuff on my current 3DS XL Card. What is going to be the quickest and easiest way to copy stuff over? The wi-fi thing or some sort of manual Faff? When I switch the new one on will it go through all this with me?

Thanks all. Excited. :)

I'd move all your data to the Micro SD in a SD Card adapter on your current 3DS first following deKay's guide as if you were upgrading it. Then when you go through the transfer process choose the PC transfer option which will only transfer the licenses to the new machine. Once the transfer is complete all you have to do is put the Micro SD in the n3DS and you're good to go. You could do it over WiFi but because you have several gig of data it will take a few hours whereas the license transfer and SD card swap will only take about 10 to 20 minutes.

Just formated my new 64GB card (one of these mahoosive bad boys http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MG4K4Q8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) using dekays easy even for a techno turd like me guide (http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/blog/2013/10/25/updated-how-to-upgrade-your-3ds-sd-card-to-64gb-and-beyond/#comments) and all seems to have gone well with my 3DS showing a whoping 488294 free blocks :).

Gonna whiz down the shops to get me some sexy sunday fodder and then go have a scoff on stuff and play some drive club whilst my XL surrenders it's content over wifi (couple of things in the guide I don't 100% understand for doing it on my pc and I'm not in a mega hurry) to my new "now with working 3D and fit coloured buttons" N3DS, lovely :).

Anyone have a quick link to Mr Dekays wonderful guide?

What cracking 3DS game am I missing that I can buy to celebrate my new purchase? I have...

Mario 3D Land

Mario Kart

Luigis Mansion

Layton and his stupid fucking face

Mario Golf

Monster Hunter

Fire Emblem

Animal Crossing

Aside from Super Smash Bros which I have on Wii U, any corkers that I am missing?

I always recommend Pullblox from the eShop. It's a wonderful wee puzzle game and its sequel, Fallblox, is different enough mechanically to justify buying both. Kid Icarus: Uprising is absolutely amazing too but many, many people have issues with the controls so it's not a game I'd outright recommend without trying it first.

Bravely Default

I enjoyed Rhythm Thief although it's probably not for everyone

I was all ready to order the Ambassador console but bottled it at the last minute. I realised I only have Persona Q, Ocarina of Time, Mario 3D Land and Paper Mario for it

I've sold/traded all my other games. I can't help but feel it's a great first 3DS console to own for the improved 3D (and I really want to have a go of that), but if you've already played what the console has to offer, it's all a little bit too late.

I don't play mine but we have loads of them (kids) and a fair few games - i am just a sucker but i would like to try the 3D as i pretty much turned that slider off when i got the original one and never put it back on..

I hope that, the extra speed and maybe amiibo support will come good.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call is amazing on 3DS, and under £20. The thing has over 200 songs and stupid amounts of stuff to collect and do, before you even start getting into levelling up your party and that.

And they're still releasing DLC for it. There are Bravely Default songs available, as well as Chrono Trigger and Xenosaga and more. Ridiculously good.

Thanks for the recs guys.

Zelda ALBW

Bravely Default

Layton Phoenix

Curtain Call

Paper Mario

I take it most of these are gonna cost a pretty penny on the download store.

Are all now on the list. I do already have the Pullblox Games.

What is it? Sims type thing?

It's an RPG, with Zelda-style combat. Only as well as just following the (really rather good) story, you can also be any one of 12 different professions - carpenter, tailor, woodcutter, mercenary, hunter, etc. each with their own play style, progress, challenges and sub-story. And you can swap profession (or Life) at any time you want, while progressing the main story, before, or after. Or don't at all.

And it's all very charming and pretty and stuff.

Cool. Played in short bursts so suits a download rather than a cart like Animal Crossing?

You can save frequently, yes, but it's less open ended than AC. There's a lot to do but there is an end and you will exhaust the game eventually. I was bought it on card and have sunk 32 hours in. I expect there's about another 30-40 odd hours left before it's properly finished, although completing the story took less than 20.

Silly question but when I get the thing tomorrow, do I have to 'transfer' my old 3DS XL system over straight away? Or can I set it up first as I want it, play a few card games then copy the SD card later on using Dekays guide? Would that cause a problem? If I do that could I still set it up using by NID etc? At what point in a 'transfer' do save games copy over?

By God N know how to confuse you with this sort of thing.
