the bottom looks a bit crowded, can't help but think during gameplay you might poke the game card out.

I assume they moved it from the top precisely to avoid you accidentally poking the game card out when reaching for the two new "internal" shoulder buttons.

I've got the New XL and I've had no trouble with the bottom corner placement of the card at all. And the machine itself is lovely. The 3D effect is as good as you could want it to be.

Wish I'd had the email.

My 3DS XL is getting lots of use at the moment...as a controller for Wii U Smash! My son hogs the gamepad, so I just connect with my 3DS, prefer it to Wiimote.

I'll be selling the console from mine as soon as it arrives, I only want the box & face plates for my Australian one, so keep an eye out in the FS thread.

Retroed, how does the standard size screen stack up against the XL?My head says "wait for the XL" but I'm loving the faceplates, those Smash ones look ace. :)

It's perfect for me. I've always found the XL a little bit too big for my liking, so I'm not worried by the smaller screens at all. In fact, I actually prefer them! Having a sharper image is a bonus. The screens are still a bit bigger than the original 3DS.

Anyone worried about too much stuff going on at the bottom of the unit, I was at first too. There's no need to worry, though. I haven't come close to switching the machine off or ejecting a cartridge without meaning to, and I don't really see how you could now I've had hands on.
