For all you guys n gals out there that are looking forward to the release of Shovel Knight I had a brief chat with one of the developers the other day. Since I asked him it's now been confirmed as being released in November but for anyone who's interested in what was said, here it is:

"Hi Guys

Any ideas when this wonderful game is going to get a UK release?

I've been monitoring the little fellas movement on the update page for a while but he seems to have been stuck in the same place for a good while now L

I need this game in my life!!

Cheers

John"

Lo and behold early yesterday evening they very kindly sent me a reply, hurrah!!

"Hey John,

Hopefully we'll be announcing something on this from very soon. That said, the game is so close to being released! Sorry for the delay.

Take care.

David"

Following on from this I asked (quite cheekily I thought, seeing as I'm sure these guys are really quite busy slaving over the game that I've been nagging them about!) asked which version he'd recommend and also if there was any chance of cross buy / save if indeed Nintendo have any way or plans of allowing it to happen. Got this back:

"Hey John,

It depends what you want! Most of the team here prefers the 3DS version for the stereoscopic 3D, Streetpass, and ability to take it on go. But I prefer the Wii U version because I like to play it on a big screen. Also, I love the Miiverse integration. So it's really up to what style of experience you'd like. In terms of cross buy, nothing to announce yet, but we're always open to the possibility (if it can work with Nintendo's system...not sure it can :P). In terms of cross save, that's a definite no (at least for now) as Nintendo doesn't provide any support for that. Maybe one day! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much.

David"

To which I've replied:

Hi David

Thanks again for your reply, it’s a great when developers actually respond to their customers and it clearly shows that you too are looking forward to the likes of me and many others getting our grubby paws on your loving crafted game J

As for which version to go for, well I really can see the benefits that you’ve pointed out for both of them but I’m thinking that the portability (bring it to work / take it away at weekends etc) probably mean that I’ll go for the 3DS version. That said Nintendo do seem to have stuff on sale quite often so It’ll probably end up on my WiiU (a lovely machine, highly underrated I’d say!) too!! Interestingly whilst waiting for news on the release of Shovel Knight I decided to grab Rogue Legacy which is cross buy (a great feature IMO but maybe one that’s better for the consumers than the developers!) and whilst I’ve put over 20hrs into the Vita version a quick go on the PS4 soon found me reaching back for the Vita, some games just seem “right” on a handheld and on the Vita with it’s lovely screen it just looked so vibrant!

Thanks again for your reply, November really can’t come soon enough J

Cheers

John"

Anyway I just thought I'd share the details that he gave and my thoughts with you guys as I'm sure plenty of you are as keen for this to get a release as I am.

I'm not going to bother the fella anymore as A) it might only delay it more ;) and B) if I don't crack on with some work then when it does come out I won't have any money to buy it!!

Don't know about anyone else but I really get the impression that he's looking forward to it getting out there and people enjoying it just as much as I / we are, nice eh :).

It certainly can, there are quite a few games that offer it in some form already - Art of Balance being one just in the last few weeks, Steamworld Dig was another, and some of the Two Tribes stuff like Edge/Rush off the top of my head.

Some more wonderful 3DS news is that Shin Megami Tensei IV will be finally fucking released this month! £17.99.

SMT IV EU status update: Things are looking good! We are waiting on a few confirmations and will have THE EXACT release date!

Confirmations hopefully by Friday, and we are still confident in October.

It saves virtually no power at all though. Flying, yes, I suppose. Still, it's not like you do it every five minutes. I don't turn mine off - you need it on for Streetpasses!

Speaking of which, I got a new puzzle yesterday.

I imagined it would be a big drain on the power. Do you have a link to information to the contrary.

Anyway, I am a teacher, and don't want street passes from my students.

Yeah I'm calling bs on that dekay. I turn the wifi on and off a lot to save power and it increases the standby time considerably.

Got the new puzzle too was expecting smash but fantasy life instead. Immediately completed it minus the special pieces.. :(

After having it installed for an age, I thought I'd give Steel Diver Sub Wars (free version) a go. Managed to get a full room every game (played 4, won 4) so there's still people playing it out there. It's actually pretty good! Has anyone upgraded? It says '7 MISSIONS!' in the description as if that's a lot. The New 3DS head tracking will help a lot in this also. I also hope the New 3DS speeds up connecting to the servers and store in both this and Mario Golf.

Yep, I play it all the time - great game. Always full of people to play against. I upgraded to premium ages ago. Don't really bother with single player, other than to get the stat boosts. Otherwise, it's all about online.

Nintendo have consistently given it updates too, listening to feedback. Yeah, cool game - surprised no one mentions it in here.

For £9 I may well jump in.

Ultimately, premium means you can unlock subs, paint jobs and stats boosts. Then it's a case of unlocking and combining these to suit your play style. Loads of variety in subs and stats boosts and the difference is notable.

I've always been able to get full rooms in World online, maybe that'll drop off a bit with Smash Bros. now released.
