I hated the first NSMB game but enjoyed NSMB2 loads. If they hadn't felt the need to impose a stupid 30,000 coin cap on the Coin Rush mode I'd likely have played it even more. NSMBU is by far the best in the series though, and very likely the best 2D mario game. Alongside World.

3D Land is better than NSMB2 and probably equal to NSMBU. 3D World is best but doesn't have the satisfying difficulty of NSMBU's extra content.

It seems that NSMB2 is very much a high-score chaser's Mazza - some of the DLC packs look astounding. Is there much replay value there? Do you get any stamps or save file stars for reaching 30,000 coins in every level for example?

I enjoyed NSMB at the time for what it was and thought the blue shell suit was a cool power up. I tried to replay it again last year and found it boring and uninspired. It doesn't look like NSMB2 brings much new to the table, but if the whole new dynamic is based around high-scores I can definitely see myself sinking my teeth into it.

The lack of leaderboards and the 30,000 coin cap totally kills the high-score aspect. The Nerve Wrack Pack DLC is great (and very, very difficult, perhaps impossible, to reach 30,000 coins in, which keeps it interesting) and there was another great DLC pack with remixed SMB1+3 levels but I wouldn't recommend the game on that alone.

That said, I spent close to 20 hours playing the Nerve Wrack Pack DLC alone. And it's just a coin challenge over three reasonably difficult stages.

Playing PW Dual Destinies at the moment. I'm enjoying it but it an alf go on a bit. Every time you think you're coming to the end of the case the prosecution hits you with another objection followed by another 10 minutes of talking before you can do anything again. How many episodes are there? I'm only on the second one but it feels like I've been playing forever.

The second seems to be the longest. I've just started the 4th and the 3rd case (which was excellent) moved on at a fair old pace.

I've bought the DLC case as well, but I'm itching to get it finished because I've got Wright vs Layton waiting.

I finished Wright vs Layton and I'm still not sure what to think about it.

Despite supposedly being written by the PW creator it's very, very much a Layton game that PW makes an appearance in. It's also not free of the "nastiness" to the story that ruined Miracle Mask.

I certainly wouldn't rush the excellent Dual Destinies for it.

I've just picked up a 3DS XL with A Link Between Worlds and it's fantastic so far :D

I also want to get Animal Crossing New Leaf, but I think the digital version would be better. I've posted in the Wanted folder, but does anyone know where I can get a cheap digital code for AC, or does anyone have one sitting in their inbox still from the Recommend a Friend promotion last year that I could buy from them, please?

Those are the two games I bought with mine, too :D

Impressions so far:

+ Animal crossing is great - it's my first since the GameCube version, so no series burnout for me

+ Link between worlds is lovely

+ The xl is the perfect size for me so I'm glad I got it

- The xl feels a bit plastic and tacky

- The 3d makes my eyes go funny so I turned it off

- I'm disappointed you can't get SNES games on the VC :(

Cheapest code is on CDKeys, I think. Only them and Game seem to do them (except Nintendo, obviously).

Recommend a friend promo finished in August!

I know these are puzzle games, but as someone who doesn't normally like/is woefully inept at puzzle games, should I buy one of these? Is the gameplay similar to Catherine, in that you have to move blocks to make a path? I managed to finish Catherine but only on easy mode, and even then I had to resort to YT vids on occasion...

As somebody who's not played Layton, bar a brief dalliance with the first before getting bored of the puzzles, could you give a bit more of a description of what you mean by 'nastiness'? I was planning to give WvL a go at some point but I'd like to be forewarned.

Pullblox has a lovely gentle introduction and even some of the mid-game puzzles you can auto-pilot through to an extent. I didn't find it got too tricky til relatively late on but it's still pretty satisfying to create your route to the goal. Fallblox on the other hand definitely requires a little more forethought before you start pullin' blocks around.

I'd definitely recommend Pullblox out of the two. It's a pretty good price considering how many puzzles there are (without even taking the puzzle creator into account). It's also as unstoppably charming as you'd expect from Nintendo.

EDIT: I've not played Catherine though, so I cannot compare. I don't think I'll ever play Catherine. I got embarrassed enough just now trying to find a gameplay video on youtube.

You can get a sense of the basic gameplay from videos. What you won't get is how the game has a nice difficulty curve and how some of the logic puzzles are very clever. Nice game. Perfect fit to 3ds.

I'm three worlds into NSMB2 - it's fantastic. It's a platformer with all the bells and whistles stripped down and the raw, tight gameplay allowed to shine through.

I love how even 'crap' Nintendo games are somehow good enough to captivate you and rocket themselves right up your games of the year lists. Nintendo make platform games, it's what they do, they're bloody good at it and the level design of their games is second to none. I've managed to get a coin rush score of 1,293 just now, suck on that!

Pullblox is excellent but it doesn't sound like you'd enjoy it much, so it might be better to give it a miss. I'm not sure it would be able to convert you into someone who loves puzzles or anything. You'd just get half way through until the difficulty picks up and then give up, so it's just not worth it for the sake of those easy puzzles that barely even require solving.
