Not sure I can name another planned trilogy that spans two console generations, actually.

The Zero Escape series, perhaps? I'm unsure whether 999 was planned to be part of a series though, having never played it.

anyone here got a 2ds for their kids? Thinking of getting one for my daughter (4 /12)

I bought my four-year-old son a 2DS for Christmas, and he loves it. Keeps him off my XL! He has Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. He loves them all, but plays MK the most.

I'm very impressed with the build quality, and it's very comfortable to play. Dare I say more comfortable than the XL? Definitely better for littler hands than the 3DS/XL. The official case is excellent, too.

Presumably Animal Crossing is a tough one what with all the reading? Our 5yo girl finds that an issue and she can ostensibly read quite well!

I struggle to find good 'girly' games without reams of reading. Of course, she still loves mario etc.

Yeah, there's a lot of text which would make things easier and even more fun if he could read it all. I started him off and taught him the basics though, and he has a great time digging up fossils and fishing, adding them to the museum, trekking over to the island to play the mini games, moving things around in his home. He amazes me. It's great to watch.

My daughter is 5 but has been playing AC since she was 4 1/2. She recognises some words but it hasn't stopped her playing it - you don't really need to read anything to do loads in it.

Hmmm, I might give it another go with her then. It'd totally be her bag, she just gets frustrated and feels like she's missing something if I don't sit reading all the text to her.

Nice preview for Mario Golf here

When you consider the substantial modes on offer, the Castle Club career upon which we're only just embarking, and all of the online aspects yet to spring to life, this promises to be one of the most engrossing time-sinks on 3DS this year. Its quick-play options are fun and will suit a quick play on a morning commute, yes, but there seems to be significant depth to enjoy; we'd also like to think that given time even less confident players will take off the training wheels, switch to manual mode and truly dive in. Ignoring the slightly cautious recommended line of the game, adjusting for wind and attacking the pin with optional backspin is simply a delight when it works; actually, it's satisfying even when it doesn't work as planned. Most notably, we just want to keep playing. The 3DS triumphed in 2013 with a few key experiences that, conceivably, could devour dozens of hours and make time pass in a flash, games both accessible and complex at once.

Looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty comprehensive update. :)
