I'm around 75 minutes in to a Dream Team Bros and I'm bored already. It's so unbelievably slow and not particularly well written.

Did I read that it took some of you 50 hours? I don't think I can commit to that if it's unlikely to improve.

My in-game clock seems to have added on 4 hours of play time too, which is just not true.

Thing with the drip feed of vc games.. I can't be bothered to check news websites to see what vc games have been released. I just would like to get onto the eshop and download what I want without constantly logging on and seeing what's become available.

Read the eShop thread!

Yeah, 50h for me. I rescued all the Pi'illos and got most of the beans, so some backtracking. Levelled up to Rainbow rank during the final Bowser's Castle section.

Not a great instalment.

I sent my 3DS XL away to be repaired a few weeks ago. The right hand speaker was crackling and distorted. Got it back late last week and it has the same issue. In fact it's like it's exactly the same. The invoice says it had new parts fitted.

I was tempted to live with the issue as I didn't want to be without it for weeks, but my warranty was close to expiring and it would annoy me for ever more. Good job I'm never got into animal crossing big time!

Anyway, I'm not very happy and have had to send it away again. :(. Who would be the best person to complain to? I rang customer care and they booked another repair, but I couldn't be arsed complaining to them as in my experience it wouldn't have got me anywhere and would have took hours to get up the chain to someone helpful.

So... I've been having a craving to replay through Ouendan (as per my post in the Wanted section). Someone has kindly sorted me out with a copy, but I've found that I've either lost or previously sold my DS Lite (been a long time since I've seen it). I was planning on seeking out a second hand DS Lite, but wondering whether I should pick up a 3DS - never owned one, and not been keeping up to speed with it, so hoped someone could help with a few questions.....

1 - will a UK 3DS play a Jap game (Ouendan!)? (I'd read something about region locking on the 3DS?)

2 - will a DS game play ok on the 3DS? (are screen sizes/resolutions the same?)

3 - what are the absolute must-haves for the system? Any decent versions of Mario? I've lost track of recent releases!

4 - is the e-shop really as complicated as it sounds?!

Thanks all! (I will now have a browse through this massive thread too!)

Ouendan plays perfectly on a UK 3DS. Pretty much all DS games do apart from a few that use the GBA slot on the DS (Guitar Hero etc.)

There are loads of must haves, Fire Emblem is my personal favourite but there are loads of others. New Super Mario Bros 2 is miles better than the DS version and Super Mario 3D Land is meant to be brilliant (I've not got round to it yet).

I don't bother much with the e-shop until Nintendo sort out an account system, but yes it's a bit of a mess.

As a fan of Ouendan, I'd strongly recommend getting a 3DS XL - the extra screen size is a revelation for the Ouendan games, making precise, fast movements that much more reliable.

Fire Emblem and the 3DS Phoenix Wright are my must-haves for the system, though obviously your enjoyment will depend on your enjoyment of SRPGs and Phoenix Wright games, respectively.

1 - yes. Only region locked DSi "enhanced" games won't.

2 - yes.

3 - Monster Hunter, Luigi's Mansion, Link Between Worlds, NSMB2, Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing... too many to list.

4 - it's no more complicated than any other online store. Choose what you want to buy, and pay.

Gotta disagree with this. Playing Ouendan on an XL makes the game far too easy. Because the targets are so much larger, it gives you a bigger margin of error with each hit. I'm actually tempted to buy a cheap DS just to be able to play it properly.

This has been my exact experience with them too. I sent my XL away because of the right speaker producing distorted sounds and SD card slot working only intermittently and giving an error message quite often. I also sent an original 3DS for repair because the rubber piece that covers the home, start and select buttons was bubbling up. For all these faults I think the only thing they did was tightened the hinges up on them both, which lasted a few days. I suppose we do get the warranty extended so that's one good thing to come of it at least, but other than that they're fucking useless and then have the cheek to include a 'how did we do???' survey when they return it to you.

Fuck the margin of error, I like actually being able to see the screen when using the generic stylus, rather than having to carry around a longer one so I can play effectively ;) But yeah, as already mentioned, if you want to play DS games without them expanding to fit the screen you can just hold select when they boot - I tend to do that for the Phoenix Wright games as they look better when not blown up.

Played Steamworld Dig. At best it's mediocre. All I seemed to do was run out of space for more minerals, run out of water, then spend ages chipping away down with a shit pickaxe because the exit up was blocked. Repeat until bored.

The exit up is never blocked.

 I cut down and sanded a chopstick to use with Ouendan. Went through a few screen protectors too!

Someone here (Blue?) was selling handmade hardwood whittled ones. Still got mine. It's awesome.

I actually bought one of those lovely hand-painted wooden styluses that were being sold on the forum aaaaages ago (also sanded down chopsticks, I believe), had it painted with the Ouendan title down it, black on red. It was beautiful

Lost it after I moved out of Swansea, sadly :(

I've got to say, Streetpass Mansion is the true gem amongst those 4 DLC Streetpass Mii Plaza games.

It has me utterly captivated. I can't rate this unique, getting-better-with-every-play game enough. It's massively more than the sum of its parts and just so well put together and balanced.

This is the single title in that entire bundle of games that makes me feel disappointed when my machine fails to have picked up Streetpass hits during my commmutes to and from work. It's the difference between a potentially semi-satisfying game and maybe two epic ones.

You get puzzle boxes from other people who've played the game. When it asked if you want to team up, decline. They'll give you an item an instead and occasionally a puzzle box too. Also, there's 50 of them, not 30.

I've hardly played StreetPass squad since it takes up too much time. I'll likely go through it once I have the other games completed. The only one I have all the Plaza tickets for is Battle. Mansion can't be far off.

Street Pass Mansion was created by Yuji Naka's team Prope. Took me a while to realise that the best way to get good chests was too create a large room with an empty space in the middle then complete the room by laying that middle piece last.
