Only 7 lives? WTF?

No emeralds either. It was just a quick blast through :)

Doing a proper 6 emerald run now though which I'll need to bother collecting rings for. It's amazing just playing it on the 3DS screen, even without the 3D. Looks like it was made for it! Really hope they release loads more Mega Drive titles.

Yeah, that offer is amazing. Tempted by Castlevania but I don't know what else.

Been out of the handheld scene for awhile, but I've started doing quite a bit of travelling with work so I ordered a 3DS XL with Mario Kart 7 in the Amazon sale last week. It's a neat bit of hardware, much sleeker and more comfortable than the DS Lite (my last Nintendo handheld). Would have preferred it in black, but could hardly justify paying £25 more for the privilege (and minus a game).

Free Mario 3D Land was a nice bonus, even if it's a little disappointing how simplified the level design and moveset is compared to the other 3D games. I get that it's an attempt to bridge the gap between the 2D and 3D games, but so far it seems a rather uneasy one. Hopefully worlds 3 to 8 will prove me wrong though, and it's certainly not without its charm (some lovely use of 3D and all the nostalgic throwbacks to the Famicom games). As well as those two, I picked up a few classics off the eShop: Super Hang-On, Space Harrier (both great conversions) and Mega Man (basic port but I figured it's about time I got into the series). Got my eyes on Fire Emblem, Etrian Odyssey, Resident Evil and Virtue's Last Reward, but they can wait for a bit.
