It looks BEAUTIFUL.

3D really suits it. The parallax layers look excellent with stereo depth.

Kinda disappointed that it's basically just the emulated Megadrive game modified for 3D. Fair enough, that's exactly what it claims to be, and it's a perfect version, but the Retro Engine remake on iOS is so much better, fixing bugs and adding new characters. This version doesn't even fill the screen (it's still 4:3), and it costs twice as much.

I mean, it's fine. It's a seemingly perfect conversion of Sonic 1 and the 3D looks great. So, yeah.

I have no idea why you would want new characters, sounds like sacrilege, and stupid extra characters were one of the things that ruined the series.

There's more to it than just emulation, the way the developers describe it, they sort of had to port the game to a whole new virtual 3D-capable souped-up Megadrive 'console' and then emulate that port. Very in-depth interview here http://www.siliconera.com/2013/12/03/emulating-megadrive-3ds-isnt-easy-enter-3d-sonic-hedgehog/

Because playing as Tails and Knuckles is fun and lets you tackle the levels differently. The Retro Engine remake even has brand new areas hidden within the levels designed specially for Knuckles to get to. It's really well done.

Or you can just play it as Sonic and ignore the rest. It's just a fun extra thing.

Yeah, I've seen that. This really is the same as the Megadrive version, though. Faithful even down to the slightly odd glitches.

It's certainly clever, no doubt about it.

Oh, excitement subsiding. :(

Tbh it only seems to be me here bitching about it so hey, maybe you'll get on with?

It's an otherwise pitch perfect version. I just can't understand why they didn't allow more give in the controls or allow you the chance to customise them? Such a simple thing to do when they'd already done the hard stuff..

I'm flying to Vegas on Monday, the plane apparently has usb sockets. I have a charging cradle, but could do with a usb charger for my 3DS. Anyone know where I can pick one up on the high street? Think I've left it a little late to order online.

Weirdly the only place I've actually found a USB charger for the DS on the high street is currys/PcWorld.

EDIT : That said, check but most planes I've been on with USB socket ban using them as chargers.

What the fuck you are supposed to use them for it anyone's guess.

Cheers for the replies, I'll have a wander around tomorrow.

I'll try and be sneaky, the battery life of the 3DS isn't going to get me very far! (Though I'll be taking the vita too).

best place to buy pokemon X? i wanted a proper version of it but i don't mind getting a digital code as i'm impatient and want to play it tonight, cheapest i saw it for is £31.99 i think on the game site. Think they should do a service where you can order a physical copy of a game, and upon purchase they send you a code to download and use that game for 3 days before it expires and you have to then use the phsyical game to play it again
