Nintendo 3DS

Spirit Tracks is the only Zelda I've played (except for a quick go of A Link To The Past on an emulator on my phone with touch controls, which doesn't count), I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it did feel like it had quite a bit of padding in it.

Anyway, I'm thinking of picking up a 3DS XL. Any good deals or bundles around now? The cheapest I can find it is £130 at Tesco (I have a £20 off voucher for their, so from £150).

What what what.

What.

Dude, seriously. You have so many Zelda games to play. Get a 3DS, pick up Link's Awakening off the eShop, get Ocarina of Time 3D and any way you can play A Link to the Past.

And Wind Waker HD.

And Majora's Mask.

Just play all the Zeldas.

I dunno, I'm just not a huge fan of what I've seen of them. They all seem quite similar. I kind of put them in the same box in my head as a do the Mario platformers or Mario Kart, in that for some reason people really, really like them, but when I play them it's like I'm just playing the same game over and over.

Saying that, I'll probably end up buying the Ocarina of Time remake for the 3DS when I get one, just to see what the fuss is about and play one of the ones people actually say is good.

Edit: Also, from what I did play of LttP (dodgy touch controls aside) it didn't seem that impressive.

Actually, could someone explain the appeal of Zelda to me? As someone who just doesn't really get them.

Hmm, I guess you could group them as similar if you're not a fan. In that case, I suggest Ocarina of Time 3D and A Link between Worlds when it comes out this month, if you don't like either of them then it's unlikely you'll like the rest of the series. Spirit Tracks is easily the worst Zelda game on a Nintendo system though. It's still the only one I've never finished.

Are you... my soulmate?

I thought this day would never come! I'm not alone! *sobs hysterically*

Add my name to the list of "never enjoyed a Zelda" I've tried playing it a few times on various formats throughout my life and never got on with it. Decided a couple of weeks ago though that after I've finished my backlog of games I currently have I'm going to but what ever 3DS Zelda games are available and force myself into liking them, I love that "sort" of game so I'm sure I just need something to click for me to be a fan.

In other news, I had a look the other day at my game stats screen, I bought my XL September the 10th so just over 2 months ago and in that time I've played on it for over 500 hours :-O that must make it my best purchase of all time ! I love having it there to play a bit of Pokemon on my lunch break or have a bash on Animal Crossing sat in bed, it's got a million percent more play that my 360 and PS3 in the last couple of months, and this isn't even taking into account the time I've spent playing on my Daughters 2DS with her since I bought her that for her birthday ! Truly is a lovely bit of kit, and even with the big next gen consoles launching in the next couple of weeks I can see the 3DS still taking up the majority of my time.

That's a good point! I guess from the couple I have played it just didn't seem that fun. I guess the enjoyment is meant to come from exploring the world/ getting new equipment, but the worlds in the ones I did play weren't that interesting. The actual gameplay wasn't too engaging either (adding a new gadget every now and again helped, but it didn't make a huge difference).

Saying that though, I did enjoy the short time I spent with Spirit Tracks (less so Link to the Past, I think maybe I'm just too late to that party). I just got tired of them so quickly when they asked me to do the same thing over and over.

(How about those 3DS XL bundles, eh? Any good ones around?)

Argos had one with both 3DS Laytons for £159. That's a bargain.

EDIT: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/1438406%257C1380011.htm#pdpPromotions?tag=ar:search:tech:offer:VGS46

Be quick! Offer ends tomorrow! You get a £10 voucher with it too.

Having not been particularly enthralled with either the WiiU or the 3DS at launch (and they were the first Nintendo consoles I haven't bought at launch for ages) I now find myself with both, having picked up a Wii U in the spring and a 3DS this weekend courtesy of Argos.

It kind of annoys me when people post vague 'Recommend me games!' posts in these threads but I really could do with some advice on any older, maybe less popular, games that would be easily missed out on? Any advice appreciated

I really like the Professor Layton: Miricle Mask.

it is the only Layton game I have played but I really did enjoy it last xmas. I would love to pick up the new one. Two might be a bit much to play as they are quite long and with lots of puzzles.

If you do buy, I would buy the new Layton game off you and you could put the cash towards Zelda (and you get £10 voucher when you spend over £100 in Argos) so you could almost get it for free... :D haha

Just had a look on the Argos website. If I pick it up it will be ready in 3 days but they can't do the games. Dunno why. If I just order online they can do the machine and one of the games but the other is not available for home delivery. Again, dunno why. Seems a bit broken. Oh well. Might just get the machine. I think they're £140 in game at the moment aren't they?

That sounds about right.

Ghost Recon Shadow Wars

Super Street Fighter IV

Pilotwings at a push, it's light on content but if you can pick it up for less than a fiver then it's worth having a go.

New Super Mario Bros 2 for the coin challenges.

There are also quite a few demos on the eShop - check out Shifting World, Rhythm Thief and Heroes of Ruin to see if any of them tickle your fancy, other than the obvious titles.
