More "quick! Set up an account system* so that parents can prevent their children being groomed through their toys, you fucking morons", really. Though shutting down Swapnote entirely works as a simpler solution.

*or at least generic, password-protected parental controls

Quick! Someone shut down mobile phones and the internet!

'Mobile phones and the internet' aren't presented as a safe space for children - Nintendo consoles are, it's a big part of their image. I can't really blame them for going nuclear if it turns out that their service has been used for grooming kids to be assaulted.

It doesn't matter where it started.

Yes it does.

Paedophile sends letter via Royal Mail to 14 year old girl, who sends a letter back, via Royal Mail. They'd exchanged postal addresses on an online forum.

Is this Royal Mail's fault?

Nintendo have already done everything they can to prevent "predators" on Swapnote/Letterbox by making it so contact *outside the service* has to happen first. They TELL YOU not to give your friend code to strangers. So if you ignore their advice and "break" their system, it's their fault? How, exactly?

i) Do children even use physical mail to communicate in this day and age*? No, stop being silly.

ii) Breaking rules is generally what kids do all the time, especially when it's some random warning with no particular authority.

*in developed nations, obviously

It already has parental controls which can be password protected.

What they can't do is guarantee that parents will use them or that they will use a password the child can't work out, which may be what happened in this case.

I) yes they do. There was an... Unpleasantness at a local school recently. He thought he was "safe" if they communicated by post.

II) again, why is this Nintendo's fault? They provide a lock for your door. Not their fault if it isn't used or someone breaks a window instead.

Now a proud owner of a lovely Silver 3DS XL. Thank you to Suzzopher for supplying me with such a glorious bit of kit. :D

Perhaps one of yu can help me, how would I set up a new ID on the thing? As in, I check the friend list and it still has the former ID, can that be changed or edited in any way? I presume such information is in the manual but it might take me a while to get to that part as I wouldn't know where to look.

I picked up SF4 and Fire Emblem from suzzopher too, what a pair of fantastic games.

I really wasn't expecting SF4 to be that good!

Fire Emblem is looking like it's going to be one of my favourite games, it's pure heaven for me.

I wish I'd got a 3DS earlier, since having one (and the same with the Wii U) it's constantly amazed me

Its really gone! Can they not just remove photo adding function?( I havent read the story -dont really want to! But if it has to do with sending messages too, are we going to say goodbye to miiverse? I doubt it.)

No, I had no idea!, is this in the 3ds options, just the slider clicked to the bottom or in game? Thanks for the tip!

It's in game, you turn off the 3D and it deactivates the slider just for Street Fighter. I've genuinely never played with the 3D on and never felt like I've needed to.

30/60 tip - if you would like to compare the both in game - try dead or alive. That runs 30fps in 3d - but once the slider sets to 2D it changes to 60fps in game (no menu option needed). So you can open a practice mode and freely switch from 3D 30fps/2d 60 fps to see/feel the difference. Tekken plays like Tekken 6 and is 60fps all the time (3d and 2d - multiplayer is 2d only and needs one cart each)

I have not tried guilty gear but hear it was a bit of a lazy port (the psp version runs smoother + bigger screen) - any impressions of that while I switched from FPS -> beat em ups ;)
