Nintendo 3DS

DeKay you nutjob! ;) We'd all love Nintendo to release updates to those franchises but we all know there's 2 chances (none and a dogs) of that happening!

However I do think that (for me at least) Golf, Kirby and Majora's Mask would represent a decent lineup for 1st quarter next year. If they all review well, which would be a given in MM's case.

I didn't say they'd make new ones, just they could. I'd say a new Metroid was pretty likely.

(Oh, and they're really not franchises - lets not use that broken Americanism here please!)

New Mario Picross, please.

I think Picross e/e2 happened instead, sadly. They're good though!

I'd like a Wii U Metroid and Majora's Mask on the 3DS

And of course new Zelda HD. I still remember that feeling of sheer joy and excitement when I first saw the pics for Ocarina of Time, then a warm fuzziness when I got it for Christmas.

It might have been the central heating, but more likely it was that Nintendo magic that I want to feel again.

If they revisit Other M the first thing you'll see from me is a picture of a 2DS order confirmation.

By "revisit" you mean "erase from existence and promise to never do anything so stupid ever again", right?

Well, I certainly can't fault you on picking me up for that little faux pas. Call it what you will though, they're incredibly strong IP's which, imo Nintendo don't use properly sometimes.

However, I don't think a new Metroid is likely at all. I think it's far more likely they'd bring out a new Prime on Wiiu. Surely they must be working on this.. musn't they..? But then we all thought they'd announce that at e3 didn't we...

And hey! Some new IP maybe? Who knows?!

New IP is more likely than a new F-Zero, Wave Race, Star Fox, 'proper' Pilotwings, etc. I'm even doubtful that we'll see another Metroid game in the foreseeable future. Those older Nintendo series seem to be relegated to being fodder for references in games like Nintendo Land and the Wario Ware series.

Just a quick one for the people here.

I've been playing less and less games the last couple of years, I'm bored and I just can't get past their faults anymore. So I was thinking to revitalize myself with a 3DS and I wanted to ask some stuff.

First, I'm thinking of buying a 3DS XL. Is that a wise choice?

What's the backwards compatibility like? Are all the DS titles available in the e-store?

Will I need an extra memory card? Is the charger included (in Norway it says it isn't).

Will I need to buy the second analogue stick/pad peripheral?

Are there enough games for someone who is not interested any more in classic Mario titles?

Is it a good time to actually buy it? Is there life ahead of it?

Thanks in advance :)

Definitely.

Pretty much all carts work, no DS titles on the store though.

The XL comes with a 4GB card which is more than enough to get started, and moving your data to a bigger card is pretty painless. No charger though!

Only Monster Hunter and Resident Evil: Revelations and maybe a couple of others use it so probably not.

Are there enough games for someone who is not interested any more in classic Mario titles?

I don't want to get into lists but go on Amazon, see what you like. Or here's a list.

Is it a good time to actually buy it? Is there life ahead of it?

Probably? I don't think they'll announce a 4DS any time soon. If it has games you want to play who cares?

Thanks in advance :)

Only ever buy a console if it has a game you desperately want to play.

Charger comes with the 3ds but not the 3ds XL. You don't need the extra stick thing. You only need a bigger sd card if you're downloading full cartridge-size games from the store. You can get the DSi-ware games on the shop. DS cartridges also work fine. There are a bunch of good 3ds games now.

As much as I welcome the prospect of fresh IP you'd have to ask yourself why they would take the risk, especially after the performance of TW101. They are always hung up for not bringing us any new IP, and when they finally do no one gives a shit about it.

That game was originally meant to have Nintendo characters instead of the Wonderful-100, I reckon a lot more people, including the ones on here, would have taken more notice if it had.

Finally got my XL yesterday. Picked it up with Pokemon X, Mario 3D Land and Ocarina of Time.

A new Mario, Pokemon and an excuse to replay my favorite game of all time, those Nintendo childhood feels!!

I picked up the original DS Advance Wars game for a fiver too, never played it before but I know that series is held in high regard on the forum, so I thought I'd risk it for a biscuit.

Loving the feel of the system, the menus definitely have that "Nintendo Magic" and it's more comfortable to hold in my massive gangly hands than I thought it would be. I don't have much of a clue about how the online features and street pass stuff works yet, so I'm going to do a bit of reading up on that so I can figure out how to trade Pokemon online.

Only downside I've found so far is that the battery life is ridiculously short, but that appears to be a pattern with new devices these days.

I see what you're saying but I don't think it's as easy as that. Imo, new IP works IF it's done right. By that I mean if it chimes, hits a chord with the public. It's a very very difficult to sequence to manufacture though. W101 for a variety of reasons was never going to be that title unfortunately.

I suppose the most recent example of a genuine new IP would be Titanfall. Here's a game that you can see is going to be very very capable gameplay wise, wrapped up in a convincing aesthetic that captures peoples imagination.

Not sure about this 64KB vs 32KB cluster size thing, you know. On my 64GB card, taking screenshots and saving the game is waaaaaay faster than it was on my 16GB card. I'm betting some of the speed is the card but also some is the fact the card isn't completely full.

When that guy reformatted his 32KB as 64KB I bet the speed up was more down to the way he's essentially defragged it rather than changed the cluster size.
