The Rllmuk Metal Thread Part 2

Recommended Posts

I've still not listened to Neurosis, maybe that would make the cut. But anyway.

1. Death Grips - The Money Store

2. Pig Destroyer - Book Burner

3. Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind

4. Death Grips - NO LOVE DEEP WEB

5. Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music

6. High on Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis

7. Sylosis - Monolith

8. El-P - Cancer for Cure

9. Reso - Tangram

10. Frank Ocean - channel_ORANGE

50% metal! Saying that Death Grips is just as heavy as anything else out there so fuck it.

This isn't even really a top 10, it's just the 10 albums I've actually listened to this year, and most, if not all of it, was just Death Grips and Pig Destroyer. I've listened to Death Grips songs over 1250 times this year. Even my beloved Pig Destroyer can't compete with that. Fucking uniquely talented pricks.

Someone post some lists, I'll be wanting to catch up on a few metal releases.

The one problem I have with Death Grips is that nothing of theirs comes close to the fantastic "The Fever (Aye Aye)":

Two albums this year is pretty prolific, but I'm just hoping they don't go in to Smashing Pumpkins Double Album mode and release more material than is really necessary.

It might be more useful to split the recommendations up by genre eg: punk, death, doom, thrash, hardcore, black for starters. Genre mash-ups can go into a "WTF?!" category if we can't decide where they should go.

We should also try and pare down the list. 10 albums per category perhaps?

Oh god. I just got a flashback to Synchronated arguing that AiC isn't heavy metal due to a lack of "stacked palm-muted power chords" or something.

We could add a footnote saying "If you want to argue over categories and be a thread killer, please take it somewhere else"?

Yeah, I think we're above genre nazis and/or making fun of what people listen to.

What about 10 historically important and 10 awesome for genres?

Vektor wouldn't be in my important thrash but would be in a top 10 best thrash.

If that makes sense?

Some suggestions for historically important black metal albums then (in the sense that they shaped the genre and influenced thousands of other bands):

Burzum - Det som engang var & Hvis lyset tar oss

Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky & Transilvanian Hunger

Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse & Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Immortal - Pure Holocaust

Dissection - The Somberlain & Storm of the Light's Bane
